SMU Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

Right. I’ll just… sulk in the corner… with anyone else who hasn’t received their FA offer yet. :’(
(Yeah, I’ve emailed them already. No response yet.)

I just got my FA package. I guess I’ll see you at UTD, rb1995 (if you decide to go) because there is no way I can afford 16k a year (perhaps more if the tuition increases every year). I refuse to take out such substantial loans.

Utd and smu are about equivalent for pre health as there pre health advising is the same in quality. Smu is better for business because they have the connections and networking.

Unseen, whats your major and what financial aid/ scholarships have you recieved from utd?

I love smu but is it worth that 40k loan…

And remember guys, tuition increases 6-8% a year so expect to be paying a lot more senior year than when you first enter smu.

My major is biomedical engineering. I received the honors scholarship (full tuition + 6k a year) and a $2000 top ten percent scholarship.

Yes, the tuition hikes are another reason I’d be afraid of SMU. I’m sure there are additional scholarships for current students and outside scholarships but still, that’s not a very reliable basket to hold all my eggs.

How is engineering at utd? That is a nice nice scholarship!!! I got the honors as well plus the top ten plus a pell grant. So yea I wont be paying anything at utd hahaha.

Do you like smu a lot? Are you into the whole football game thing, or are you more studious? What school fits you better?

For me, I loved the beauty of the campus and how nice everyone was there. Im not into the whole sports thing, but president turner said it best when he said you dont want to see any ugly campus in the early morning. Very true. Utd is not an attractive campus, but the money I will be saving it incredible.

Definenty pm when you make your final decision  I doubt I will make mine till the day before haha.

I noticed that many people that gets into SMU gets scholarships. Please give me an idea of what the GPA and SAT scores in order for scholarships offer.

A lot of students at SMU are active in attending athletics events and also very studious. I’m an A student, double major in humanities, and I made it to every single Boulevard and home game this year, as well as a few away games! (That’s not to brag on me, but to show how you can succeed academically and enjoy doing lots of fun, extracuricular stuff too!) You might find out you like college sports! :)
