My D was admitted to Meadows 11/25 and SMU on 12/17 (dual admit), and was told to expect financial aid package “end of January”. That has come and gone (submitted FAFSA/CSS back in November with EA application).
Now she keeps getting institutional emails like “Join the SMU Tradition” , “Destination SMU”, and “Receive a Phone Call from an Alum”, but nothing in her portal or email about FinAid… Are we missing something?
Is she signed into the right portal? It is different from the application one. My.SMU.edu. It takes you to a page of boxes with the top right name “My Tasks” If there is financial aid information to be completed, there will be “1 to do” if any. When I click that it takes me to the documents I need to upload for FAFSA verification.
Dear, we are in exact same situation. We keep getting lot of emails but no package yet. I have been writing here about this only if you follow the discussion.
@swimwiththefish@soniamaanu - I just had her login into My.SMU portal, no tasks and no information under financial aid… SIGH!
Just curious/concerned if others have been notified, why not her? All of her documentation was confirmed to have been received before November 1… Do they not release them all at once? Alas… we wait some more before being able to make a decision…
I applied under EA and just got my package yesterday night. However, it does not reflect the Dedman scholarship I got. I think they might just be overwhelmed right now? I got more financial aid than I thought I would Both a larger grant and subsidized/unsubsidized loan, I would remain hopeful!
No. I actually couldn’t stand it and I called today and asked. They have NOT gone out and the lady on the phone couldn’t give me a definitive date, other than by the end of February.
I wish all the schools would just give specific dates for admissions and scholarships. Leaving these kids, and us parents, on pins and needles is just not cool. The process is stressful enough…ugh.
Hi! Just found this forum, so forgive me if this has been asked already. Regarding presidential scholars, what actually happens next? From the ones asked to apply, a select group is asked to continue the process? But SMU doesn’t tell you if you aren’t advancing? That’s a bummer. And from the ones asked to interview further, how many are selected?
Thanks!
There are kids selected to interview (was a weekend in person event, doubt it will be with COVID). From there it is narrowed down to the winners. You should Google it. SMU explains the process on their page but everything is different with the pandemic. And I don’t think they tell people if they’re not advancing but I’m not sure. That’s why I come to College confidential to see if anyone has posted that they’ve received an interview and I’m checking on other school’s pages about honors colleges and scholarships. Sometimes you can find that a lot more on College confidential but you also have to wade through a lot of speculation.
For the record, SMU’s internal Hunt selection process did not finish reading applications until last Friday. I know, since as an alum and former Hunt, I am a reader (both this year and many previous years). I would suspect it is similar for the Presidential Scholarship. A LOT of time goes into this selection process. A LOT of people are involved. Give the admissions team time.
Thank you for sharing. I don’t know if you can tell us this, but I am curious about the process. You said the Hunt “readers” didn’t finish until last week, but the Hunt also has the video component. So, if you can tell us, are there a group of readers, a group of “watchers” (so to speak), and then they get together or submit their opinions to yet another group. Not that it really matters, I just think it helps to understand the process. Like when I go to the doctor or dentist, I like to be told what they are doing as they do each step, because it somehow makes me more calm and the whole thing more palatable. I hope that makes sense. Maybe if the kids knew all that the process entailed, it might make them relax (and us parents, too)…or maybe not lol! This is a stressful time for kids and I think COVID has only exacerbated the situation. Thank you in advance for any and all information you can share! PONY UP!
I understand what you are asking, and why you are asking it. To participate as a reader I have to sign a confidentiality agreement. I don’t believe that I should say any more at this point.
