Anyone know when presidential scholar applicants find out if they’re finalists?

Based upon the last couple years, it’s on a rolling basis between now and the end of February. School was cancelled yesterday and today so that might delay notifications a bit.

Excited to say that my daughter just received notification that she is one of 66 finalists for the Hunt. Yesterday was her 18th birthday and it was kind of a sad, lame, snowed in birthday…this was a wonderful late “present” that really boosted her spirits! PONY UP!

Congratulations, and best of luck to your daughter in the interviews. If I am not mistaken they are via Zoom this year (which is unfortunate). For the record I was in the Hunt Class of '94, the Second Hunt Class.

Yes. Virtual interviews. These kids are getting used to zoom and googlemeets, and we all know those are the safest options, but I know they are ready to get to do things “in person” again!

So the Hunt scholarship is not as good as President scholarship that is full-ride?
The Hunt is $44,000 a year and transportation, etc for a study abroad semester. The Presidential is the full meal deal…tuition, room and board, study abroad, smu in taos, etc…
The Hunt also gets you involved in matters like the Tate Lecture series. Now, it was last millennia, but as a Hunt, I met Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher, George H.W. Bush, Brent Scrowcroft, and others. It was a great experience. I had the opportunity to “hear” Stephen Hawking do a presentation. I will never forget Thatcher making a point of spending time with the students at the meet and great. She was greatly amused by one of my friends who had taken to dying her hair green in those days.

Posted this on another thread but my daughter and another student from
her school both were notified Thursday afternoon that they are presidential finalists - 60 finalists of which 20 will receive the award. The interviews will be virtual in March, but they have the option to take an expense paid trip to Dallas for a tour in March or April.

Hi! My daughter has not heard any news about the Hunt finalists. I read the previous post about them just finishing reading apps. Wondering when notifications might be coming out.

Hi. My daughter found out last Thursday she was a finalist for the Hunt. Not sure if they sent out all the notifications. I read in years past that they rolled out the Presidential finalist notifications over a few weeks (hoping that’s the case this year) but I’m not sure if they do the Hunt the same way. Good luck. This is such a stressful time for these kids (and us parents). Again, best wishes for good news!!!
Thanks for the info. Did your daughter get the news from her SMU email or the email on her application? Time will tell for us. My daughter has been offered a scholarship to Baylor but SMU is her first choice. We have hopeful plans to visit both schools at the end of March if Covid permits. Wishing your daughter the best!
How to obtain a mySMU account?
We received an email titled “SMU Account Information” 3 days after receiving acceptance. It is the email that contains your SMU ID number and SMU email address. In the email is a hyperlink (ours was red) titled my.SMU.edu. The email should have everything you need to set up your account.
