aarfan2-What have your heard from people who were up for Hunt Scholarship ? Were they declines or acceptances for further interview ? Thanks !

A question. How does one know when the scholarship offers are done? We were told and it seems to be that different awards trickle in. How do you know its complete if you’re not strong enough to have a full-ride offer :)

Just got the Veritas Scholarship. Already have the Distinguished scholar, hoping for President’s.

^^ Congrats, Elasticity!
Could you enlighten us on the Veritas Scholarship? How much, if i may ask? And what kind of criteria are they looking for?
Thanks!

^^ SimpleLife: The Veritas seems to be based on test scores and GPA and, looking at previous posts, is awarded in addition to the Distinguished Scholar award. My D received her notification of the Veritas a few weeks after notification of the Distinguished Scholars award. The only official reference I have seen is at the following site:

[Summer School | SMU](http://smu.edu/summer/financialaid.asp)

The amounts given on this page are prorated for the Summer terms and are about 1/6.67 of the annual award: the Veritas, annualized, is $5000. As you can see, this list includes a few other less well known awards. The Mustang Scholars may be at the discretion of the individual departments. My D received the Mustang Scholars award ($10K total - $2500 per year for 4 years) and her notification of this was included with the Meadows Scholars award in a letter, received last week, from the Meadows dean. Hope this helps.

p.s. sorry about #54 — bad day.

What’s the most that a Cox Business Scholarship will give?

My D got a phone call on Monday (Last Friday was PS interview day) and she got it as full-ride…So proud of her and happy.

Congrats Binchen!

I’m so happy I’m ready to faint dead! Got a phone call from the theater department this afternoon telling me I was now a Meadows Scholar. I’d given up on it because so much time had passed, but apparently they still had some money to award. They told me that the theater applicants this year had a very high degree of both artistic and academic talent, and they wanted to make sure they gave as much scholarship money as they could to those students. It was made clear that decisions took into account both merit and need.

I recv’d notice about Distinguished Scholars today, but nothing about Hunt. Does anyone know what the protocol is for this? I’m getting pretty nervous and spent more time on it than any of the other essay projects.

@ragingelephants, Did you happen to see the Presidential/Hunt Scholarship thread on this forum? It sounds like people who were awarded Hunt’s were given notice already via email. I’m not sure if everybody has already been notified for Hunt’s … but I’m just guessing that they have been, since it was via email, and since all EA and RA deadlines have passed (i.e. they’ve had a chance to review all candidates). Wishing you the best!

I was unsure from the dates if things had changed. It almost seemed that some people were mentioning that they were getting scholarship offers trickling in from SMU some well into March. Also, I thought SMU would acknowledge your submission and at least send a decline letter of some sort.

I may just call the admissions office and ask. I need to start narrowing down my choice and that’s going to be made primarily from the scholarships offered. Can’t swing Smu without it coming more into line with public universities, even though the offer that was made was generous. Also, could be more when my folks get the tax return info in. Don’t know exactly when that is all processed either.

I was emailed about being a Hunt Leadership Finalist. Any information about what to expect in the interview?

Yes, if anyone has any information about the interview process for these scholarships it would be greatly appreciated

deleted post

Son was named a Provost Scholarship recipient upon acceptance (EA) – $12K per year. Then, he received a Meadows Scholarship of $10K per year. A third letter arrived with a Mustang Scholarship of $2500 per year. We are most grateful!

bubblemom, if it is not too provate to ask, what are your son’s stats?

thanks,

nonutrix

nonutrix,
GPA 3.9, SAT M=690; Reading=670; Writing=740.Varsity athlete all 4 years, team captain of 2 teams; great leadership abilities and record; talented artist, yet doesn’t fit the stereotype of any of these – not a geek, not a one-note jock, not a scruffy artist. He is a well-rounded and well-grounded kid. Had a great interview and great portfolio review when he visited SMU. He will be a Hilltop Scholar.

Do they ever give scholarship or merit money to transfer students who are not asking for financial aid?

They do. Check out this page: [Transfer Scholarships - Undergraduate Admission - SMU](http://www.smu.edu/Admission/Apply/Transfer/TransferScholarships)
