@SimpleLife - NEVER said that. Please do not put words into my mouth. I specifically put the word nerds into quotations to indicate that I was using the term ironically. I don’t think engineering students are nerds. I don’t think being smart makes you a nerd. I don’t think my statement was presumptuous, but you sure tried your hardest to make it seem as if it was.

My point was that SMU goes above and beyond to ensure that it’s engineering students are well-rounded. It’s part of being a liberal arts school. And, Lyle has a humanitarian bent that is unique to this campus. Futhermore, SMU’s engineering school is very well respected, both inside and outside of Texas.

^I didn’t put words in your mouth, claire. I quoted you. And then I spoke of the impression your quote left on me. I found your post to be more of a salespitch than informative, and I thought it implied things in this “compare and contrast” thread that were misleading. And so, I spoke up. The point you just made (above) about SMU would not have garnered a single response from me. Well said!

UPDATE: I officially chose A&M over SMU, turning down the Hunt Scholarship at SMU. I visited A&M, and felt that I could grow just as much there as I could at SMU. The kids were similar to me and very driven.

Congratulations, pmcneely1! Considering that you felt such a great fit at A&M when you visited, I think you made a wonderful choice for yourself! My aggie son is working very hard and having a blast. The engineering program at A&M is very challenging. You’ll find that teamwork is essential there – and very rewarding! One must be driven to take it all in and do well. So, it sounds like you’re on your way to a really good fit in the fall. Thanks for posting. Wishing you all my best! :)

UPDATE: Officially finished (survived) my first semester at A&M Engineering and made it out with a 4.0! Wooooooooo

@pmcneely1 @SimpleLife do you have any advice for the Hunt scholarship regarding the interview process? I know that the deadline for the scholarship application is coming up and I can’t wait to see if I have the opportunity to interview for it in the upcoming months!
