SMU's Engineering Reputation

Hi I'm an incoming engineering undergraduate to SMU and I wanted to know more about the opportunities given to SMU engineering students once they graduate. Lately, I've been a bit concerned that because SMU is not as highly ranked in engineering as UT, TAMU, or Rice that I would be at huge disadvantage when applying to graduate schools or jobs. Is this a correct assumption?

I also wanted to know more about the strength of the biomedical specialization within the electrical and mechanical engineering programs at SMU. I was wondering if SMU offered any research in the biomedical field to its undergraduate students. In general, I also want to know about the extent of the research that goes on in SMU's engineering department.

I would love to hear from anyone who has graduated from SMU engineering or knows anyone that has. I just want to know what your experience was like. I chose SMU because I believed it was the best choice for me and unfortunately I will not know if it was until I actually start in the Fall. I just hope that I won't be at a major disadvantage compared to students from other universities as long as I keep my grades up high and be active at SMU.

Thanks!

Congrats on your acceptance at SMU. My son LOVES SMU and he has been given many incredible opportunities and he is currently working for Microsoft this summer. SMU prepared him well. I also sent you a PM.
