So...any Princeton hopefuls get crushed by Stanford?

Would you say HYP’s admissions process is more similar to that of stanford or MIT/Caltech (got wl stanford. It was like a slap in the face after the month of acceptances)

Rejected by Amherst, Stanford, and MIT. WL at Chicago -________-

luckily i have a few acceptances, and a Princeton one to put at the top of my list.

So are you guys going to check your decisions march 31 5 p.m…since that’s when they were released earlier last year?

I got flat out rejected from Stanford… I kinda wish they would have released it April 1 or March 31 so this string of rejections wouldn’t be this long!

OP: How did you apply to Stanford AND Yale SCEA?

Op could have apied Stanford rd

Ya…i was Yale SCEA and Stanford RD

I think Stanford kinda looks for those innovative people, or those with that personality. If you could demonstrate that through ECs and Essays, they’re willing to value that higher than GPA, SAT, and other academic credentials.

And, though I might be biased as an accepted, I can’t disagree with their “arbitrary” decisions because Google, Yahoo, and many other innovative ideas came from Palo Alto

Please. And HYP go for people who are made of cardboard and have no original thought.

This is the biggest and most insidious lie that exists. HYP and Stanford differ fundamentally, but to characterize the Stanford acceptees as “unique” or with “personality” is moronic at best. This is coming from someone who was accepted SCEA.

Stanford simply doesn’t care about test scores as much as HYP. Period. It caters to California, hence the 40% of the student body hailing thence. It targets first-gen students. The students tend to be very laid-back, which is frustrating in some cases if you are not. It has more URMs that HYP.

I visited, and realized that I didn’t like it and would not fit in. It is a great school. But its admissions process is fundamentally different from HYP, so you absolutely cannot view it as a reflection on your HYP chances.

For the record, at my school there were only two S and HYP cross-admits, one of which was a legacy (the other being I). Really, don’t consider it a commentary on the strength of your app, because it’s not.

For the record:

I’d say you’re more than biased, more like delusional.

Well here’s hoping that Princeton does care!

It does. :p

Wow I was just going to make a thread about this topic…

I feel exactly the same way. Waitlisted at Caltech and MIT, rejected from Stanford yesterday, and to top it all off my middle-of-the road school that I got into as a backup took off $8000 for 4 years from my financial aid package which is completely ■■■■■■■■. I have been driving myself ABSOLUTELY INSANE since the Stanford rejection. No doubt it wasn’t my top choice, but now I am doubting my chances at the remaining four schools.

Princeton and Harvard are my top choices, followed by Brown and JHU. I got a second interview at Harvard, which lifted up my hopes a little bit…until being thrust into admissions purgatory two days in a row and being rejected by Stanford yesterday. I have 2250 SAT (only a bit weak on CR) and 2390 combined for my three SAT IIs. I have taken courses in and taught myself higher level mathematics, and I have solid ECs, but none stand out as jaw dropping. I’m starting to feel that after all my hard work that I am just going to end up at our crappy flagship state university…

…And worst of all, my birthday is this week…this sucks.

Stanford’s not all that anyway. Princeton’s better :-)

but stanford… it has a better weather :D

but i will settle for princeton… haha. princeton now is my second choice

I don’t want to rain on your parade (which seems more like funeral given your post), but I got two interviews at Harvard and got rejected. On the other hand, the applicants from my school were in a unique position last year, so I wouldn’t put too much weight on that.

This depends on who you’re talking to. Princeton has a far better weather for me :)

I like the 4 seasons. Princeton’s weather is amusingly very bipolar.

we really only have 2 seasons in CA… and my allergies doesnt go all crazy… but anywhere on the east coast OO my body shuts down because of all the allergens… i hate nasal allergies OO

I understand that 2 interviews at harvard doesn’t mean you are going to be accepted (as most are still waitlisted/rejected). However, it was comforting to know at the time that I was competitive enough to get that far for Harvard. Still, doesn’t really mean anything if I get rejected…

This whole process is completely ridiculous. I have been driving myself crazy after the Stanford rejection, and I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m going to explode if I don’t get into anywhere besides the two backup schools that I’ve already gotten into.

RTgrove: I got into Princeton through QB, rejected from MIT (not really a math person so not really surprised), and waitlisted at Stanford, so have faith I guess?
