So, how much will senioritis matter?

So, I just found out that I got into Swarthmore Early Decision. Now what? I have this one physics class that is absolutely impossible, and it's killing me. I was able to squeeze by with an A in the first quarter (which Swarthmore saw), but that was the hardest thing ever. I want to know to what extent I can slack off from that class before Swarthmore will care. If my grade in physics drops down to a B or something, will that be a huge deal? What if I drop the class entirely?

In general, how adament is Swarthmore about taking back acceptances due to senioritis?

Dropping the class entirely--only if there are severe extenuating circumstances. They will most likely tell you not to. (I was also ED1 and had the opportunity to participate in an intensive senior-spring internship program that required me to drop physics and make French an independent study--they basically said "no deal").

But getting a B in one course should be fine. Won't even make them blink.

Yes, don't drop the class, but a B? Not a problem at all. If you were failing or on the brink they might get worried, but aside from that they really won't care. :]

So, does anyone know what would happen if I wanted to drop a class for the opposite reason? I have this physics class that is basically the exact same thing we did in chemistry (it's the same teacher) and I really feel like I'm not learning anythin. Sure it's an easy A, but it's also at 7 in the morning, and I'm not a morning person at all. I really can't take it. This class is slowly draining my energy, and I'm not even learning anything. I originally took it because there was supposed to be an honjors option offered, but that fell through. It is also my second (technically third) science class this year. I'm also taking AP bio and doing a year-long for-credit research project. I'm sick of wasting my time! Do you think there is any way they would let me drop it for the second semester?

Phoenix, e-mail them and ask. I think in that situation, it's worth trying. Explain that you thought the class would be challenging and fulfilling, but it's instead really repetitive (because the honors option fell through), and that you'd like to be able to focus more on your research project.

No guarantees, but in your situation it's worth a try.
