So I had to room with ex-juvenile hall convicts...

^
But there was a whole sermon on WHY those things were bad that same day. We practiced tons of activities totally against that…

There are plenty of people exposed to those conditions who don’t turn out like that.

you must be pretty sheltered at home? i mean if they assaulted you couldnt you just fight back? lol

but yea man just be aware of your surrounding ALWAYS!

^^^
I actually would like to hear that. Anything to make me feel better right now.

I normally don’t like u Saugus, but I have to agree completely with you that there are some people (like those you’ve just met) who truly are lost causes. Why waste money on these types of people when it could go to helping kids who are actually trying to improve their lives?

Life is an opportunity. People who waste it are themselves waste.

^
You don’t like me? I really don’t even know you. You just pop up into my threads from time to time and make annoying comments.

I can’t figure out why I’m so upset, but it may be what you just said. I’m a liberal, I believe in helping everybody and the inherent goodness in people.

But now that I’ve seen it firsthand… Wow.

I’m not trying to sound like some sort of hippie who wants everyone to love each other.

But I hate the whole “they’re useless and a waste of space” mentality. It makes me think that you have an incredibly narrow/limited view on the world and how it should work.

Lol Saugus. Your posts definitely do not show your belief in helping people and the inherent goodness of humans and their ability to change.

^
It was a belief of mine. Sure, I knew this stuff was going on and I hated people for it. But I thought that people could change given the right environment and attention.

This weekend proved me wrong.

You shouldn’t expect individuals to completely alternate their mentality in one weekend. The process is gradual.

And I’m assuming you didn’t help much with the process either :/

Your “hating” on people doesn’t reflect a very open-minded character. I sense a more “Why the **** are these people doing such stupid ****? They’re corrupting the earth and should just disappear or change immediately. Either way I don’t want to have to see or deal with them.”

I can kinda understand how you think that way. But I can’t help thinking that this sort of mentality will hinder you in the future…

^
I am one of the most open people that I know.

I don’t care about race, religion, or even personal goals and aspirations.

But when people just disrespect the kindness that they have been given to such an unreal degree, it’s impossible to try to see any sort of goodness in them.

Sorry. I meant to say “open-minded”.

You could be the most open person in the world and still have an extraordinarily narrow/single-minded perspective.

I suppose you at least tried not to be judgmental at first, so that’s a plus.
But in all reality, you can’t know with certainty that, had you been placed at a “disadvantage,” like those kids probably were, you wouldn’t have been the same. It’s all about context. Sure, there are people who rise above situation, but it’s a lot harder than it seems. It’s easy to say how you would do it, but it means nothing until you’ve lived it.
Just as you had never met someone like them, they may have never met someone quite like you, and hopefully you didn’t give them a negative impression of what they may consider “people like you.”
I’m not saying this to be harsh or anything, you just are sooooo sheltered, and I can see where you’re coming from, but I can understand the ex-juvie kids too.

Why IS it that I’m always brought up as an instrument of terror? :p

OP: You’re a weak-minded individual if 24-48 hours with a person changes you forever or whatever.

So, just to clarify: you were placed with people who made some mistakes and you lived in fear and yet they did nothing? Bet you feel like a dumbarse now, dontcha?

OP, quit judging people. It is a sad way to live your life. People turn their lives around- and guess what? Jail isn’t the end of the world. EVERYONE makes mistakes.

Who are YOU to decide that someone is a lost cause?

Ok- to EVERYONE. Drugs are not the end of the world. If someone wants to hurt themselves, so be it. It’s not a problem until they hurt you. My dad abuses prescription drugs, my mother is a pothead. My fiance is a former pothead who even went to GASP jail because of it. O NOEZ! He is now in college full time with a full time job, a part time job, living in a house. He is a wonderful person that I fully intend on spending the rest of my life with and he is one of those “immoral” people.

Furthermore, there are a TON of people who do drugs and who have done “immoral” things that will be around you your whole life. GROW A SPINE AND GET OVER IT. If you’re so weak that they’re going to corrupt you that much in the short time you spend with them (or heck, the amount of time you spend with them period) then that’s YOUR problem.

And no, not everyone turns out like the people around them. Again, mother is a pothead and an alcoholic. Sister is an alcoholic and whore. First boyfriend and best friend for 15 years was a cokehead, pothead, drug dealer, etc. He went to prison for the first time at 13 and has been in and out since (he’s now almost 19). I had a 3.8+ GPA, mid 30s ACT, did the whole sports-clubs-leadership-community service gig in high school. Got into the only two schools I applied to (UMich and MSU). Still don’t drink or do drugs.

You are a single-minded, bigoted person with a narrow-minded outlook on the world. I feel bad for you, the parents who raised such a sheltered child, and the children that you will inevitably bring up in the same conditions that you were raised in. Oh, and FYI- it is sheltered, conservative kids that go wild in college and get into “immoral” trouble.

Good day, sir.

ETA: How exactly did they disrespect the kindness that was shown to them? If people there were like you then they probably weren’t well-accepted to begin with because of dumb stereotypes and they may have been using this as a defense mechanism. And can you REALLY judge them after spending a few days with them? Say that they are damaged goods who should just shoot themselves? You are a sick human being if you think that and I hope you can reconcile wanting the death of other human beings with your “morals” because I sure can’t.

Again, then you’re weak.

Why are drugs bad? Because mommy and daddy and your teachers have told you that since forever? What type of drugs? There is a HUGE difference between heroine and pot.

How do you know? Have you talked to them since? Hmm?

Uh… 70-80% of Juvenile convicts NEVER reoffend. I’m glad you’re willing to throw away that 70-80% for the 20-30% who do. What a completely ignorant statement. I’ve sure you’ve NEVER made a mistake in your life.

You’ve never been in a fight before? Yeah, definitely a reason for someone to have no redeeming qualities. The dirt bike? Stupid and juvenile. Again, a reason to waste someone’s life, eh?

Have you been home schooled/private schooled your whole life?

Sexual intercourse? Are you kidding me?! Humans are sexual creatures. Actually, our primary drive in life is our survival and need to reproduce- ie, sex.
And drugs- well, you’ve already gotten my rant on that.

Yeah, there’s more but I’m bored and done with you now.

I had several things to say, but Romani has said them all and more.

wow you have a serious issue…

why do you act as if you are so much better than these people? you come off like a cocky elitist dude

romanigypsyeyes wins.

/thread

phone # please

lol just kidding…

anyways i totally agree with you. kudos.

OK, I feel less upset now that I’ve read Romani’s post. I’m sure there are plenty of people at my school that just never got caught.
