Hi, I'm from Kentucky. I am white and female. I am looking for a full tuition- full ride to a school... preferably one with a pharmd program, early admittance to med school (that i could get), or just a near full ride out of kentucky :) thats pretty decent. I am a senior this year.
My current list
University of Kentucky- I have full tuition and KEEs
University of Louisville- I have full tuition, room and board, and KEEs
Indiana University- 9,000 dollars (that they give for your test scores)
Louisiana State University- 30 ACT so i guess i'd get Golden Oaks?
Tulane- no money there yet...
Possibly University of South Carolina.

Where should I go what do I do? I really only have a few ideals for college...
1. Out of Kentucky!!!!
2. Decent... not like berkeley decent, like lsu decent
3. Pharm D or early med school admission.
4. To go there free or nearly free (i have to at least equal the amount i have to kentucky for my mom to let me go) So that is tuition + 2500 dollars.

ACT- 30
SAT- 2010... 1350 M+CR

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!! if you could recommend scholarships too... i'd love you

Which do you want more of the following… (you can’t have them all - so eliminate what isn’t absolutely necessary - I would say early-admit is NOT necessary, while big merit scholarships probably is.)

1) study pre-med or pre-pharm (can be done at virtually any school)

2) early-admit to pre-med

3) early-admit to pre-pharm

4) big merit scholarships to cover costs that exceed $12k per year (see below *******)

I So that is tuition + 2500 dollars.*

******* ??? Do you mean to say that you have to get a scholarship that will cover all costs except for the amount that is equal to Kentucky instate tuition/fees plus $2500?

Now that I look at your post again…I think you’re saying that since you already have free tuition plus some amount from UKentucky, that you need to replace that with a scholarship elsewhere. Is that right?

however, other schools charge varying COAs, so we really need to know how much your parents will pay each year. From that we can figure out which schools/scholarships will work for you.

And…
If your first priority is to get out of Kentucky, and your second priority is to get the the right amount of scholarships, then I would definitely get rid of the early admit req’t because that severely limits your choices to the point that you might not have any choices.

Does LSU still have Golden Oaks? Can you provide the link?

Unfortunately your standardized test scores are probably too low to get a full tuition scholarship at Tulane. You wouldn’t find this out until February anyway, because that scholarship requires an additional application. IMO, the most you are looking at is $25,000 which leaves nearly $30,000 to be covered, and even that amount is unlikely.

Since you are interested in Pharm. D., have you looked at the university of Rhode Island program? [University of Rhode Island - College of Pharmacy](http://www.uri.edu/pharmacy/programs/pharmd/index.shtml) With your stats you can probably get in as a freshman, and you have a shot at a great scholarship I would think. Worth checking out I would think. I have heard it is one of the better programs in the country, but I am no expert on that.

There’s a university in Virginia you might want to take a look at: Virginia Commonwealth University. It has great pre-med and pre-pharmacy programs and you could definitely get a full ride. It’s well known in Virginia (40,000 students and located in Richmond). If you like urban schools, it might be worth looking in to.

Also, considering your credentials, you might want to apply to some top tier schools (like Berkeley, etc.). You might get a good deal from somewhere and weigh that as an option later on.

i heard alabama has a full-tuition for out-of-staters. i think you have to have your ACT at 32, though, but if you get there it seems like a good deal! i was checking it out and it seems like they have a good honors program which you’d probably get into. good luck!

Do you want PharmD or med school? the 0-6 pharmacy programs are very selective, and free rides are not likely since those programs are graduate programs after 2 years. If you are not sure about pharmacy, just to pre-pharm/pre-med wherever you end up.
IU also gives more money through the honors college if you get in as well.

*id probably get a parental contribution of about 10k/yr not including living expenses *

Can you please ask your parents how much total (**including **living expenses) they will pay each year? Without that info, it’s hard to make recommendations.

For instance…with your current stats, Bama would give you a 2/3 tuition scholarship. That would leave you with about $6k for tuition plus room and board. If you raise your ACT to a 32, then you’d get free tuition.

Also…I think you need to forget the req’t that the school must have an early admit for pharm or med school because you’d have to apply for one of the other.

Which career do you want? To be a doctor or to be a pharmacist???

You will have MORE choices if you just look for schools that have good pre-pharm AND good pre-med programs that will also give you good scholarships.

Kentucky participates in the Academic Common Market. Check the website for a program that works for you. You will need to choose a specific major that isn’t offered in your home state. [Southern Regional Education Board](Southern Regional Education Board)

Have you asked your questions at the Med School Forum? You may find more ideas there.

I think South Carolina is a good fit for what you’re looking at. The pharmacy school is called the South Carolina College of Pharmacy and is a joint venture between the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and the University of South Carolina in Columbia. You can study at either campus, which is unique for colleges anywhere. If you decided to go the medical school route, you have MUSC and USC Med in-state, both of which are full of USC undergrads.

As far as tuition, you are bumped down to in-state (a $14,000 discount) once you get $1,000 (I think) in scholarship money. The South Carolina Honors College is prestigious- above a 1400 average on the SAT for incoming freshman- but you have a good shot at getting it. If not, you will definitely get the Capstone Scholars program which also offers nice perks and basically guarantees you a university scholarship.
