the kids here all have superiority complexes, that mask extreme feelings of insecurity. Everyone has a chip on there shoulder because they didn’t get into this place or that place, and this adds to the competitive atmosphere…almost like everyone has something to prove. Everyone in SFS is a stanford reject, and reminds you that they should have gotten in there every time they talk to you. As a result, everyone is a complete jerk: they all try to project the image that they should have gotten into wherever and that they are “cooler” than everyone else

And slipper, you’re right: I probably won’t end up looking at Columbia. I would love to go rural.

however, what really bothers me is georgetown’s pitiful endowment, and the fact that they channel what little money they have away from the sciences (I am a biochem major/premed). The results in extremely poor professors and research, and a crapload of TA’s.

*and thanks for the advice on northwestern: I’ll look into that.

Also, the classes are jokes. The language department was more intense at my high school, as was the science department. And forget about the math department: we covered more material last year in my night class at Fairfield U than we have this semester (for whatever reason they made me repeat all of last year’s math classes).

Last, the social scene is horrendous. Horrendous. I picked georgetown over hopkins because i went to an all guys high-school, and wanted to have a little more fun in college. WRONG CHOICE. If you manage to get into a party as a freshman guy, it will be so packed to capacity that you will be forced to leave. Ruit? forget it. Flip cup? nope. You’ll be lucky if you have room to walk.

And as for another school solving my problems: I went on recruiting trips to dartmouth, brown, and amherst for rowing…amazing. the kids were incredibly more relaxed, friendly, etc. In fact, I really didn’t like georgetown even when I came on a recruiting trip here. Thats my 2 cents.

also: what about uva? would that be a good safety school?
