So i was wondering which to submit? to prove my worth-i'm a fifteen year old Nigerian homeschooler

I have a photography portfolio (I’m only into human and nature photography).
I also have a summary of my two books plus my new book(which has been called the next godfather of our time by the few profesionals i told my plot to…)
My final year research paper is also really great although Nigeria doesn’t have science journals so I couldn’t submit it.
I’ve decided against sending my actingclip and my running clip. I was told 100metres in 13 seconds isn’t impressive so Idk…
Which of those three should I send?

“the next godfather” based on plot is not necessarily the compliment you think it is, so I’d go with the photography portfolio. If you can write a good abstract of your research paper that’d also help.
If you can only send one, send the portfolio.
Yes 100 meters in 13 seconds isn’t very impressive for the US, they want something like 11.5 for D3 and below 11 for D1. Of course those are numbers for 17 year old athletes and you’re 15, which means you’re too young to seriously compete in college teams.

however… isn’t it WAY too late to submit anything (unless you’re talking Fall 2017?)

@MYOS1634 Applicant can still submit links, writing and research briefs through the online uploader.

Assuming they have already applied…

Yes,I have applied @intparent
@MYOS1634 Yes, so I heard. I have clocked 11.5 at the National nunu champs race but I don’t have any clip only a medal which doesn’t state my time so… Thanks a lot
but can I send both the research and the portfolio?
My research paper representing a final year paper and my portfolio showing my talent.
You’d be surprised about the book tho… no Dons or anything… I just felt since they haven’t read my books my summary would be of help.

Being told someone finds a plot interesting is not the same as producing quality works that attract a wide audience and get positive reviews from reputable sources.

More important, if you already applied, these things should have been covered. It’s now five weeks past the application submit deadline. The top colleges are pretty far through the review process.

Adcoms do not tend to read research papers. You would have needed some outside validation (teacher or qualified mentor in that field) to know it is good, so that person could send a brief note, if this is exceptional. But I would warn that lots of kids write research papers, including Capstone. Most don’t submit them. They might send an abstract of research in science (independent or with a research team) – but again, that would have been covered five weeks ago.

Do you understand what Harvard and other top schools actually look for? You aren’t being recruited for sports. You’re young, no IP or AB, I don’t see SAT and SAT II scores. Sorry.

Do you have an abstract ? That’s what you need to send. Plus photography portfolio.
What were your sat /act scores ?

Thanks a lot @lookingforward
Can anyone ever be aware of they’re looking for? Sadly, like many other internationals there are no APs or IB.
The only school with the IB curriculum charges 1/2 my family income. It’s outrageous tho, paying millions just for an IB diploma?

@MYOS1634 thank you! I’ll do that.
Thank you again!

What are your scores?
If you rank very highly on your country’s curriculum/board exams, there’s no need for AP or IB.
However, you do need high scores.
The fact you’re 15 may also hurt you - it depends, Harvard doesn’t mind “younger” applicants who’ve done the most of their situation, but the fact remains you’ve had 3 years fewer than other applicants.
Did you also apply to prep schools like Exeter or PA, as you’d been advised to do?

I’ll know my scores soon…

I agree you don’t necessarily need AP or IB. But first, any tippy top is looking for kids who have been through rigor that shows they can manage the ongoing academic expectations at the college, the higher bar. Second, the international pool is usually fiercely competitive. That includes many kids with competitive extracurriculars. You’re competing against students from both Nigeria and other countries in Africa.

I wonder why you didn’t take the SAT earlier. With 40k apps to cull down to a few thousand finalists, adcoms at the top colleges move quickly and expect applicants to have planned well and submit a complete app by the deadline. The fact they may accept a late score or late extras doesn’t mean they stop their process to go back and start fresh.

Yes, a year at a US prep would serve some good purposes.

sighs yes, I know.
Not that i’m interested in them but PG year requires SAT scores, that I don’t have yet. Deadlines have passed :
@lookingforward thanks again!

You wouldn’t be in a PG year. You’d be in prep school 10th grade, like most 10th grade entrants at these schools, who have already completed quite a bit more than is typical (high-level boarding schools offer college-type classes).
But now, deadlines have passed. :frowning:
Also, you need to know that you can send an application with scores pending both for college and boarding school.

10th grade? I did that four years ago :frowning:
I am done with hs work and like half of 100l econs/accounting coursework.

Thanks for your help though

There’s no such thing as “done with” in the US system, especially at boarding school where most students repeat a year on purpose (many would be 16in 10th for example.) You choose the classes you take according to the level reached before.

Thank you so much but i have a problem @MYOS1634 . My portal shows they received two academic papers BUT i only submitted one on the tenth as shown there. What did they receive on the eighteenth? I haven’t even used the portal since then. Could someone have sent something?(some of my friends practically pleaded with me not to apply :frowning: ) I don’t even know what to think! I’m freaking out right now! cosa sta succedendo? O mijn God! tellement peur!

My only respite is the “pedagogy of the oppressed” which isn’t helping anymmore :frowning:

@Oddenigma Call and ask as soon as you can. If it is not something you sent, tell them.
It is also possible that they downloaded something a few days after you sent it.
