is there an advantage to filing earlier with 2009 data in January and correcting the FAFSA when the taxes are done?

It won’t hurt. Where I work, work study is in huge demand. We don’t award aid until spring, but we do award by date the FAFSA was initially filed. Students who file earlier have a better chance of receiving a work study award. YMMV.

Get your taxes done as SOON AS POSSIBLE after February 1…which is when you should have all of your tax info for 2010. Then you will have no trouble meeting the March deadline.
