So Let's Settle the Big Question... Which College Is Most Like Hogwarts?

Oxford and Cambridge. The houses in the books were based on Oxbridge colleges, and the movies were shot partially at Oxford (as a result of which Christ Church is now overrun by tourists every weekend). Like in the books, colleges also have numerous sports competitions against each other.

Princeton?

the great hall in HP is based on the dining hall at oxford. also, the dining hall at harvard is based on the one at oxford so you see where i'm going with this...

Correct, kid112. It was in fact the hall at Christ Church. The scene in the first movie where the new students are about to enter the hall for the first time was in fact filmed there. If I remember correctly, they wanted to actually film the Great Hall scenes at Christ Church, but the college wouldn't let them remove all of the portraits from the walls.

Incidentally, most Oxford college halls to my knowledge have only three long tables, not four.

Oxford or Cambridge.

But if we're talking U.S. colleges, Yale is the one that struck me most as a "hogwarts" school.

Lol this is a sweet thread.

I bet lots of those old colleges in Europe (I don't know any names but I have seen some pics from my Norwegian friend lol) look like Hogwarts in some ways.

Good luck on your search :)

St. Olaf in MN has been described as "Hogwarts for Lutherans" :-)

Washington and Lee, and maybe Middlebury? both pretty small, very preppy
