So... we all like UChicago....

Yeah. So... perhaps a weird question.

WHY do you think UChicago is the school for you?

Me? I dunno. I honestly don't. Everything about it seems attractive to me. Maybe that's why I think I'm a match (not stats wise, but in terms of type of school vs type of student).

Anything, anyone? I'm just curious to read responses.

Do you consider yourself a quirky person? A nerd?

I like school a lot, but I don't know if I'm quirky. How do you KNOW if you're quirky?! Really, is this just something you should know?

Argh, so confused.

So... just discuss why you want to go to Chicago, why you're a match for the school, and why you think the school is wonderful.

This is so broad.

Again, I'm just curious. Give me something to read.

I can tell your quirky just from that bit lol. :D

Well, I'm in the IB program (thus my name lol), so I guess that makes me pretty quirky/intellectual/etc. I do like to read Greek philosophy- is that quirky? I really like the Common Core because it gives me a structure I'm used to. Honestly, the main reason I'm applying to Chicago is they have the best Near Eastern Civilizations program in the US, which is my potential major. Everything else just comes as a huge, very pleasant plus. :)

I can't help it....

45 more days!!!!!!

45 days? Until what?!

i think IBclass06 means until early action decisions come out but correct me if i'm wrong.
i like the University of Chicago because of the workload, as weird as that may sound, and because of its intellectual environment. It seems these days that everybody just wants to learn for practical purposes....I want to learn just to learn! And Chicago definitely stresses learning for learning's sake, if anything :)

I definitely don't consider myself a nerd, and I'm not worried about finding like-minded individuals at Chicago.

However, I do take my studies very seriously and I have this insane drive to learn, and Chicago seems to be the best place to pursue that aspect.

i like to put a pencil on the table, and laff at it everyday. someday i believe that the pencil will no longer take this abuse from me, and will react. i want to see how it reacts and i believe a uchicago student would do.

I just knew it was the right school for me when I visited. I visited over 10 times, and I fell more and more in love after each visit. Plus, my three favorite teachers happen to be alumni.. I hadn't known about their Chicago connection when I decided that they were my favorite teachers. They were just different, in a good way of course, from any teacher I'd come across in my life. Also, I'm a hardcore academic, and by hardcore, I mean HARD CORE. I worked on a project so much at one time that my state of consciousness shifted. It has lasted for 5 months now (I seriously thought I was developing schizophrenia, but I'm not). I devoted several hundred hours to this project, at the risk of lowering my GPA because the project was not a requirement, not for a grade. I've researched intensively every year since 6th grade. Research pretty much consumed most of the time I could've spent bolstering my high school GPA. I specialize in the history of Chicago (the city, not necessarily the University).

heaven help uchi

gianscolere, that's the kind of urge and commitment that will get you a PhD and beyond some day.
