^And one thing I didn't know about Stamp until orientation (last week) is that in the they have 8 lanes for bowling, like 8 pool tables, and a small arcade. It's so cool down there.

One thing I love about going to College Park is its proximity to DC because I love going to the Black Cat or 9:30 club (right on the green line!) to see those little shows--and in college I won't have those pesky parents asking why I keep going to see bands I've never heard of.

ahhhhh, the Black Cat...good place right there. I'm seeing "We Are Scientists" there tonight. DC's venues are pretty good...930 is awesome too. My parents are the same way..."what? who's Ted Leo?! I dont think you should go" haha

haha, go a little north of College Park and you'll find a not-so-good neighborhood.

we are scientists....top shelf right there. I highly recommend their music. College Park was my #1 but they deferred me...like a bunch of us in-state people

well im going to a school that isnt all that prestigious.. DePauw University. Its a top 50 LAC but not many ppl outside of the indiana/illinois/ohio area know about it.

... and i turned down wisconsin b/c of money

dude you turned down Stanford for Maryland due to money?

OUCH!

I wouldve taken out $160,000 in loans. ha.
[/quote]

and Villanova, and USC, and Santa Clara. The loans to attend any of those schools would have been equivalent to the first mortgage my parents ever had--I'd rather not take on that much debt on an entry-level salary...

Instead, I'm actually going to earn money going to school because on top of tuition, room and board, and a book stipend, my scholarship includes a check that covers "incidental/personal expenses," which according to Maryland will be about $2600.

I'm in the University Honors Program, which if you look at the stats in the "freshman profile" thread over at the College Park forum...is pretty top-notch.

So I try not to think of what could have been, and am thinking about what is. As it is, I like the hand I've been dealt.

haha, holy **** man.....I know kids who turned down Harvard for Gemstone. But I feel ya on the lazy business...Gemstone's entrance math course is Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra & Differential Equations all smashed into one semester....which is freakin insane

Mechanical Engineering = ****ing hard.
Mech. Engineering + English minor or double major = damn near impossible
Mech. Engineering + English + Gemstone = kill me first.

I haven't applied yet, going to be a senior next year, and I'm looking at a lot of very good schools, definitely not an Ivy though... but also some lower, but still perfectly good, schools...
