The only reason I still have the application on my desk is because of that darn rectangle. :)

Yup, it took me a while to figure that interesting "thing."

It has something to do with mathematics by the way, I also added a small description. It wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

I sent in my RD app last week because I finished my essays, and I got sick of looking at them each day and editing them.

impulse, you're from ny? Hm I used to live there for several years before coming to california. Are one of the reasons you're applying because of the weather? :)

Yeah, I live in NY. The weather isn't the only reason why I'm applying, but it's a big factor. :)

What's the weather like in New York? I'm a native Wisconsinite, so the weather here's usually ugly, although it's been a while since we've had anything really bad. Our winters have been unusually light the past couple of years, with little snow. I actually woke up on Christmas morning to find snow, but it's all pretty much melted now.

So far, it's only snowed twice this winter--once November 13, and once the day after Christmas. Other than that, the weather's pretty much ~30 degrees from December to January. As with your winters, Psion, our winters have also been unusually light lately. Essentially it's just cold and dry.

It's a chilly 51 degrees down here.... but it was 70 on Christmas day, just like usual!
Oh, and we got our first snow in about 20 years... it lasted maybe an hour and melted before the day was over.
I live about an hour and a half away from Caltech, so that's what you can expect.

51 degrees? That's probably like in the morning most of the time... it gets much hotter later during the afternoon, but right now the weather's being weird and it's raining.

And SNOW?? Um it never snows here, and I live less than thirty minutes from Caltech, so I don't know what kind of snow you're talking about :), unless you mean those little pieces of ice clumped together in a very thin layer on some lawns.

Yeah, it'd be nice to get away from the cold, rainy, snowy North East and get some of that warm weather. :)

I applied RD, and mailed my envelopes two or three hours ago. I am a little bit worried about the essay, but other than that, I think I am in good shape. How much time did you all spend on your essays? I am a bit worried, as I did most of the writing part during and after christmas.
Good luck to everyone who applied RD!

haha good luck to you too, suneel112. =)
For me, I usually spend very little time or a lot of time on my essays.. because I either get lucky and it's almost perfect the first time, or I just struggle through it. The first essay was ok, the second one was a disaster at first. So then I started from scratch and tried to write about something different, and it turned out ok.
Don't worry, I did most of my writing recently too.

I wrote my essays for Caltech today and mailed everything about an hour ago. :)

I'm applying RD too. Hopefully my SAT scores won't keep me out.

I applied 3 hours ago.. haha oh well..

oh yes it snowed... once... first time i ever saw it (I live in Temecula, CA, where the avg temp in summer is about 100). it was all of about one inch deep on the grass. i get to call it snow, because we don't get any more than that

but yes, 51 was an abnormally cold day, even for winter

haha wow fussball, even if it's just one inch deep, that would have been quite a sight here. anyway, we probably won't be seeing that again anytime soon here.

have you lived your whole life here in cali? cuz i definitely haven't, so i guess i'm not as lenient in labeling that as legitimate snow. :)

yeah, i lived for my first 7 years in northern CA, half hour from San Fran, and the rest down here. looks like snow to me!
but yes, i have been to places with lots of snow, like Big Bear and Colorado, so i know it's barely anything. but we gotta have our fun too!

i mailed in my app on the 29th. Last of my 7 applications to go out.

I applied RD. Caltech is my first choice. Let's hope that we'll all be classmates.

Yep - Caltech is my first choice!

What major are you seeking Samp?

Electrical Engineering here.
