I think some people self-segregate... notice the "SELF-" qualifier, but most people don't. It's what you make of it. Some people don't like to move out of their comfort zones, whether that's socio-economic, racial/ethnic, national, gender, sexual, etc. But if you want to, you will -- and you'll find that most of the student body does as well.

The women are as attractive as at any top school. Same for guys. That means there's a good range -- super hot to super ugly; but most lie in between. Good thing is they're all smart! Looks are relative, but intelligence is not. If you want centerfolds go to a Southern state school. ;)

i got admission in TUFTS' engineering school (undergrad). m confused whether i should go for it or not. some people say it is too small one =s

I like the engineering school because it's small. You get to meet and know everyone freshman year, which makes life much easier socially and academically.

is it true that tufts is the harvard-rejects school? i'm from singapore and i really have no idea about its real reputation
[/quote]
Most people I've talked to at Tufts did not apply to Harvard.

But yes, there is a significant amount of students who apply to both schools because of location. Those who get into both usually choose Harvard.

Does anyone know a way that I can get a feel of Tufts without visiting on the open day?
because I live in Hong Kong and its waay to expensive to just fly over.
(Ive watched theu.com videos and some videos on youtube)
Any ideas? thanks!

Also, anyone accepted to the combined degree??

Does Tufts give credit, or waive the requirement for taking intro courses if the applicant, er, I mean Jumbo, earned a score of 5? I'm thinking specifically of Intro Biology.

theoldprof: i think if you look earlier in this thread, you'll find a link detailing referring to course requirements for all students, im fairly certain on that page, it also lists credit/exemptions for each AP course.

i also think i remember reading it in the admit package we got in mail....though i could be wrong there

It is definitely not boring! Boo that suggestion. I don't know how to describe its size, though...it's a campus. It has trees, dorms, academic buildings, dining halls... You'd have to come visit to see, I guess.
As has been mentioned in various threads about Tufts' location, it's easy to get to downtown Boston since we're on the red line of the T (the main subway line). It's just a handful of stops away, which is more than could be said for BC I think.

You could use your 5 to substitute either Bio 13 or Bio 14, which are the two pre-med bio courses at Tufts.

What do you think about the all-girls or healthy-living option? I know someone asked about the healthy living option on the first page, but I couldn't find an answer. Is the healthy living option for people who have used drugs/alchohol and elect to stay in the "healthy" dorms to stay clean?

If you enjoy the social scene, don't choose the all-girl house. It's nothing like the sorority houses. I know a few people who were "stuck" in Richardson because the other dorms filled up and hate it there.

Alcohol/smoking/drugs are supposidly banned in all Tufts dorms. But if you were looking for alcohol, you could get it pretty much anywhere. I guess healthy living is for people who want a quiet dorm, and do not wish to attend any dorm parties.

Do you think I should sign up for the "core" classes first before I take classes that gear towards my major (probably IR)? Are there any good professors that I should definitely look out for? And, on the other end, are there any professors that I should avoid? :)

You definitely want to get the distribution requirements out of the way in your first years at Tufts; but it's worth taking a handful of classes towards majors you're considering, too. You never know, you might hate IR!

Oh he definitely teaches! My boyfriend, also an undergrad, was even thanked in his last book! Dennett is fab and I love that he looks like Santa Claus... it eases off the fear many have who are in awe of his brilliance.

primeminister:
Healthy living is like a contract: people who live on a healthy living floor/in a healthy living dorm agree not to drink alcohol or do drugs. Although this year so many freshmen were put into healthy living that didn't want it that it ended up not meaning much. If you don't plan on drinking/doing drugs and don't want to live with people who do, it's an option you might want to consider.
