Tufts Social Life

What's it like? What sort of events do social gatherings gather around? (Sports, arts, etc.) Are fraternities/sororities big?

Thanks!

To be honest, sports doesn't really have a big influence here. There's a lot of arts events going on, as well as plays and dance performances, like stepping competitions and "Tufts Best Dance Crew". We also have had various bands come to perform, like Ace Enders and Hellogoodbye back in November. We've had various comedians come in as well--Daniel Tosh is coming in tonight I think. and We've had Seth (gah, I forgot his last name but he's on SNL?) last semester. Major events--> Fall Ball, Winter Bash, Spring Fling (Ludacris is coming this year!). As for Greek life--> yea, they're definitely there... a lot of people I know go to frat parties every weekend. And don't forget Boston. That's a whole 'nother world of stuff to do out in the city. There is a LOT of stuff to do.

yeah but boston is AWFUL for carding (so many colleges, its easy to see)... not like nyc. so i guess no bars for a few years

ive also heard that if you want to party you need to go to bc or neu or somewhere like that. good, cause ill have plenty of friend going there.

^^ Not really. I've been using a fake New Hampshire ID with a fake Tufts ID(easy to make) as a 2nd ID. Works 90% of the time.

I don't know about NEU, but BC doesn't have a greek system. The freshmen, at least the ones I knew, usually drank in their dorm. If you want good parties make your way down to MIT; Those nerds really know how to throw classy frat parties.

There are parties if that's what you're looking for, but the big ones are not super frequent. Otherwise, as stated above we have a ton of activities at any given time. This week for example a theater group will be doing one of the first drama adaptations of Dr. Horrible.

I think most people are fine staying on campus for parties - for better or for worse, there's always places to go on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights (and sometimes even other nights) whether it's a frat party, house party at an off-campus house (which generally are still more or less on campus), an on-campus apartment, or just your friend's dorm. As far as the entire Boston scene, I hear that MIT does have the best frat parties, which are often frequented by BU students as well as those from farther schools.

Other than parties, there's always plenty of stuff going on, whether it's concerts by big artists or student groups (I saw Ben Folds perform on Tuesday), movies played by the Tufts Film Series, theater, or countless other activities.

Are there social dance events for students, such as a homecoming dance, etc?

There are social events and the Men’s soccer games are real fun…

Can you share anything more about the soccer games/team/athletes? Is there a lot of school spirit? Kj… suggests not.

On homecoming, parents weekend and weekend games, the stands are full with good spirit. Tufts started “Fan The Fire” a couple of years ago that has helped promote the spirit and charity events. It is a specific student organization. I even think the school arranges buses for certain big road games. The men’s soccer team have been very exciting the last couple of years…
