Social Justice Award

For smaller school, the newly created Social Justice Award reflects well upon the concepts and character of this college. "The Grinnell College Young Innovator for Social Justice Prize, which was created by President Raynard Kington in conjunction with a small committee of advisees, was announced to the Grinnell College community this Monday, Nov. 1 in a campus-wide email."

I see that there is some criticism that the college should only be spending its endowment on its own students, but to me, this is a perfect way of bringing the college’s mission to life: using knowledge to serve the common good. To me, the college is saying that it is not enough just to spend money on ourselves and think only about each individual’s education, but to use our resources to make the world a better place, just as we expect our own students to do.

I also really like that the school is looking for nominees from every field of endeavor.

Bravo Grinnell!
