i’m a student of korean heritage and CA resident.

i spent most of my life in CA where it is culturally very diverse.

if i go to Brandeis, which i hear is over 50% Jewish, i ask what an asian student like me can expect in terms of social life…things will be different that’s for sure…

also, i plan on going to a med school after this and i was wondering how competitive it is to be as a premed student there…approximately how many students receive an A in say… chem, bio, or physics class…at least over 15%?

how friendly are prof in general? are they approachable? how big are class size on avg?

The median class size at Brandeis is 17. Brandeis as a student:faculty ratio of 7:1. While you may have large (in contrast) intro classes (chem, bio, econ) there will be discussion sections (each intro has 3 or 4 TAs) and still the professors are extraordinarily approachable. I'm in an intro class this year with 100 or so kids and I've gone to my professors office hours and talked for an hour about current events.

I'm not premed so I can't give you first hand experience. What you can do is contact admissions and they can put you in touch with someone.

In terms of social life and the connection between ethnicity. Brandeis is a nonsectarian, Jewish university. There are jews here and you shouldn't come if that is going to be a large problem. However, Brandeis prides itself on its acceptance of difference, and that shows. Everyone here is integrated socially and academically.

There are asian clubs on campus if you wanted to seek them out, but as far as parties/friends/etc. you'll expect what you would expect at any "normal" school.

Also, the class of 2010 was the first class in Brandeis history where less than 50% of the class was Jewish,
