What is the social life like at Columbia? Are the academics hardcore? Do people party? Any info is highly appreciated. Thanks!

Work hard party harder. Most of the social life at Columbia is in bars and clubs, but the Greek life can be great and there are definitely a ton of parties on campus. It really depends who you become friends with.

I agree with the work hard, party hard mentality, regardless of drinking. Yes, the academics are tough, as can be shown by the fact that Butler is constantly full or near-full, but there is definitely opportunity for a thriving social life. Lots of people get fakes so they can go to surrounding bars and the like, but I’ve been just fine with on-campus parties. Clubs are definitely a good networking tool.

It’s what you make of it. Some people almost literally never go out/have fun, some people party with the same group of friends every weekend, others go to different parties all the time, some join frats/sororities and mainly party with other Greeks, or there’s local bars/downtown. That being said, you’re definitely not going to find anywhere near the same level of parties at Columbia as you would at a big state school.
