is the social scene really that bad for an outgoing guy? are sdsu parties hard to get into when you go to UCSD? is it true that it's hard to meet people outside your college? good looking girls at UCSD?

So many questions, the search button has so many answers.

lol, you can usually tell that a social life of a college campus is terrible on this forum when no one gives you a direct answer and they tell you to “go search it,” as if typing an actual response is so tedious and time consuming

PS: this is a message board if everyone just “went and searched” every question they had, the forum would not get any traffic and it would be dead. the concept of a message board is to ask questions and get answers, otherwise it would just be an archive where people search things.

from what ive heard the social scene at UCSD is horrible. this is probably the main reason i am choosing a different school, among other reasons (there arent the best looking people attending this school, just saying)

^How can you speak for the school when you don’t even attend? Your few visits can’t account for the entire college experience.

Really? I see no correlation between social life and searching for things on the forum. There is at least several threads a week on this topic so there is no point in explaining the same things over and over. We’re not here to spoon feed you information like a baby. The jist of it is that college is what you make it to be. If you like to party, you can easily find them by looking for them. Its not like parties will just come to you in any college. UCSD is so big, you can find whatever you’re looking for here.

If you base your conclusion on rumors then I’m glad you aren’t coming to UCSD. Triton eye? Seriously? If that’s how you decide your school then you must not be very intelligent. Why would a college of 25,000 people not have good looking people? There is no explanation for that silly rumor. Smiley is right about how you can’t judge by a few visits. Do you seriously expect people to be partying while you admits come visit? Your lack of research from credible sources defeat your point.

You just burnt 2fast4you so hard he cant even type up a response xD own!

2fast4you - I assure you, no one will be bothered by your choice to attend another school.

Hallelujah!

(PS, you’re probably not that good looking yourself, just saying)

are there really several threads a week on the topic? hmm probably not a good sign. I’ll just stick with UCLA

suit yourself, but who knows you may end up regretting giving up on UCSD without doing any research or actually getting a good picture of what the school is like.

I definitely did research and visited the school but still couldn’t decide… which is why I’m here haha. so if you think you can persuade me as to why this reputation isn’t true or why I should think otherwise, please by all means I’d appreciate it

and 2fast4you, I appreciate the feedback thanks

same with everybody else haha… kinda why I came here. just one more source to get answers from

What I don’t understand is how comparisons between LA and SD are made based on ‘social scene’ if they have pretty similar demographics.

Sure, location may be part of it, but shouldn’t it signal similar people. Yet LA isn’t portrated as socially dead. I personally preferred SD because I felt it was the best out of my options.

I can’t wait to start this Fall. Visiting the campus definitely helped me, maybe you should do that acer1212.

The social scene is what you make of it. Everyone has their own perspective of it. If you like parties, you can easily find them, especially with greek life. The only thing we’re missing in comparison to UCLA is the sports history and being in division 1, which we are currently in the process of moving into.

thanks AndrewL

and I did visit… but it was a Saturday. and dead as hell. so I didn’t get a sense of the school at all.

Probably not a good time to visit. Weekend, no school going on, midterms that week, what do you expect? Students everywhere having picnics?

you’re right but it’s kinda tough to pick which day you go when you live miles out. which, once again, is why I’m here, so I can hear from students

Honestly, the social scene is whatever you want to be… regardless of what school you choose.

The big reason people say UCLA has a social scene is because it has a frat row. A lot of people (not everyone) think that just because a school has a frat row, it automatically has a social scene. But unless you are willing to go out, make friends and be social, you’re not going to be able to get into the frat parties anyways.

Then you have UCSD. We dont have a frat row and we get a lot of yish for that. People (at least a lot of people I’ve talked to) assume that we aren’t really that social of a school because of it. But even though we dont have a frat row doesn’t mean the parties dont exist. If you’re willing to go out, make friends, join a club or two, the parties will find you.

I wouldn’t necessarily build your decision on where to go to school based off a social scene. But if you’re going to pick a school based off of something social, you should really consider whether you want to live in a laid back/relaxing area like SD or if you want to live in a super fast paced city like LA.

I digress though.

If this puts your mind to ease though, the Ultimate Frisbee club almost always has parties. I know half of the people in that club and anytime I see them, they’re almost always coming from a party of some sort
