Socioeconomic diversity

I have read a couple of remarks about the lack of socioeconomic diversity at Tufts. Most students tend to come from middle class or higher background. Any thoughts?

Yes, you are correct. But Tufts kids never talk about their backgrounds ad nausea. Its not something I would feel comfortable talking to anyone about.

In this year’s freshman class, as in last year’s, the number of students who are the first generation of their family to attend college and and the number of students receiving Pell grants, which are Federal awards to students for families in the lowest earning bracket, were around 10% of the class.

I think most Tufts students would be surprised by the extent to which family backgrounds differ amongst their peers, but as the above poster aptly mentioned, it’s not like you can walk around campus and tell which students fall where on the SES spectrum.
