Sociology/Anthropology/Communications

Hi! I'm a freshman trying to figure out potential majors, and I am considering double majoring in Sociology and Anthropology and minoring in Mass Communications and Media. However, I'm not sure if it's worth making Anthropology a second major (or having any second major, at that -- anthropology seems to best compliment the other things I'm doing for sure, but there are also other majors I've considered). The main issue is that if I double major plus do the communications minor, I will have no flexibility of courses in my sophomore, junior and senior years -- I'd have to fill a certain requirement with every class slot I've got, and I'd have to take 5 classes every semester, something that wouldn't be the case if I didn't double major. I definitely want to minor in communications -- my school doesn't offer a major in communications, and I would really like a career in communications or something related to that. I've also considered seeing about creating my own major in communications and just double majoring in Sociology and Communications, potentially with a minor in another topic like Anthropology, Psychology, Studio Art, English, or whatever else.

So really I'm just curious about the career possibilities with any of these concentrations, and if it would be advisable to load myself up with so many requirements. Thanks!

It's called summer school...that'll free up some time.

If you're majoring in Anthropology just to major in something else, don't bother. If it's really interesting to you, then perhaps just take some classes in it without actually majoring. Otherwise, perhaps talk to your academic advisor and see if perhaps you can create an interdisciplinary major that combines all three. There are plenty of career opportunities with any of the above combinations, so don't worry too much about that.

What is anthropology?
