Yea I understand that, just seems like they’re the only ones who waste their time bestowing their unique knowledge on us innocent, unknowing little children.

Not saying this represents all Exonians, I seriously do have the utmost respect for all Exonians and other BS students. Even if my posts sometimes sound like I don’t like specific schools, that’s just not the case. I’m just judging by what I see here and stating my observations from what occurs on CC. So far all the whiners are those from a certain school who just want to flip their complaints into an easy way to flaunt their schools intense work load.

Whereas some kids from another school (will go unnamed) simply come on here and create a thread asking if there are any questions that need to be answered. People actually learn from that because they don’t feel like they’re being patronized. I feel like this is a much more effective way of actually helping people, if that’s the posters objective. As it seems to be in this situation…

Ultima88,
I read that you didn’t attend Exeter or Andover, but had applied for a postgrad year. I can’t link to posts (must be my public school education) but it’s there for the finding.

@ lemonade1: yeah, i saw the same thing. ultima88 registered in march and said that he had a sibling at each and that he was “torn” between both.

I was just about to post that we can’t assume ANY of these negative/whining postings are actually from REAL Exeter students. They could even be gasp students from rival schools or rejected/waitlisted applicants registering under an alias just to stir things up by scaring the incoming preps!

PAC- that is so true. I’ve learned to follow posts for a while before I decide if the poster has credibilty or not. Anyone can be anyone on a chatboard like this!

Not that he’s not a ■■■■■ or that he is, but the exeter workload could be tremendous without him having to be working every second and never having thirty minutes to make a post. I think we both know huge workload does not equal no time for self AT ALL.

If Exeter is soo bad, why do thousands of applications go there each year?
When I went there, it was nowhere near Aushwitz. It seemed like a tough environment, but not like that. If you just hate Exeter, then don’t try to scare future applicants away from such a prestigious school.

I looked at exeter and i dont understand where all the hours wasted away on homework comes from
my tour guide only had 8 problems in math for homework and 4 pages to read in history
i don’t find that intimidating at all. i dont know why they complain so much, everyone at exeter looked depressed. everyone walked alone and my tour guide didn’t sit with any friends at lunch. only me.

i found that school really really really depressing

Well I’ve been to Exeter numerous times and yes many students were stressed from the work but even more were having a great time with friends in the dorms, at lunch, and even at a dance I looked in on. From my perspective it looked like an amazing place.

Oh, I’ve seen those 8 problem assignments. They’re all pretty hard and most students spend 50 minutes a night on math alone.

erm, exeter really isn’t that bad.
yes, it’s tough.
i think that it really depends on the person who attends school, in this case, exeter.
i’ve met people who love exeter and they really do thrive there.
sure, they get stress–they’ve had to deal with excellent students in classes they don’t necessarily thrive in or have to deal with the homework.
but that happens at any school.

also, it’s not all work, work, and more work.
the students there seemed to have fun w/ their friends.
i mean, at my revisit there, i sat with friends of my tour guide and we all walked to the gym together w/ their own revisits…

oh, and on the math problems…
they are hard.
i was in a math class for my revisit and i was like, “whoa!”
i also got a math placement test and trust me, i may not be stellar at math, but i’ve always been okay.
i seriously… spent hours laboring over just a few questions.

okay, this may be a bit biased because i’m going to exeter this fall and i’ve only met people PERSONALLY that love exeter.
anyways, that’s just my two cents on this topic.

I am so tired of people saying “people looked depressed” at Exeter.

We were just there on Friday walking around and everyone was so friendly. We stopped actual students on the path and asked how they liked the school and they all said “I love it here!” Assembly happened while we were there and we heard a large cheer coming from the hall as all the students celebrated the release of hatched chickens onto the stage. (I guess part of a science project.) Later on several students were leaving an academic building laughing and talking- they said “speak of the devil here he is”- we turned around expecting to see another student. Instead we saw a teacher- he was friendly and laughing/talking with the students who were saying “great class today”!

Doesn’t sound like a depressed student body to me!

GoBigRed12: Neither can the majority of the people who are saying “everyone looks depressed” because they are basing that on their interview day when they walked around!

You also have to factor in the time you’re visiting. I mean a lot of people are depressed at MY school sometimes and its not academically challenging at all. Like a couple weeks after we get back from winter break people aren’t very happy. The weather sucks, a lot of people are sick, we still have like another four months of school left, etc. Right now everyone’s happy all we have left are three days (two full days and two half days) and they’re just exam days. Its really pretty outside and some teachers let us have class outside. Everyone’s happy. I’m not saying that its like that at Exeter I don’t really know but the winter months (which is when most people have interviews) are generally more depressing than other times.

Yeah, what almost there said. The weather serves a really big factor. I live somewhere near Exeter, and sometimes, I’ll wake up as a happy person, but when I see it’s snowing and dreadfully cold outside, all the happiness goes away.

I think Exeter is a HAPPY school
I mean, some people probably don’t have time to do their homework because they slack a lot. I’ve met a lot of current students, and they all love it. They are not denying that there’s a lot of work, but they still find some time to have fun and chill. (:
