Rich kid problem at top universities - Business Insider
after reading this and other likes, I feel the urge to post:
To generalize, I have seen some myths people have about top colleges:

Top colleges are more expensive.
See the link above. Top colleges often have more money from alumni and donation, which means they are more generous in need based financial aid.

Top colleges are harder so I go to smaller schools to get straight As. May be true at some schools, but others would make sure to give many As. Besides, to me, some majors like engineer and science always tend to be grade deflated where as english and history have easier grade.

College ranks do not matter that much. Well, if they dont why are so many people here on CC!

... you may add for me

I don’t really have more to add, but I will say that my college with FA and merit scholarships cost me much less than my state school (I go to a top 15 private university). So I agree with #1, but this isn’t true for everyone.

You are uninformed. Anybody who can get into a top school can get a full ride + 1k/yr at a state school. So yeah, it kind of is infinitely more expensive. For example: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1348012-automatic-full-tuition-full-ride-scholarships-18.html

What warrants do you have to support this claim? To you? What? How is this claim any stronger than the supposed myth you’re attempting to debunk?

Appeal to the people fallacy

The mental aspect of being one of the relatively few poor kids at a school with many rich ones can be very challenging. It takes a very grounded strong person.
