Some Questions......

Hey guys, I have recently been admitted into WCAS and have some general questions. If any current or new students can share some insights, it would be awesome.

  1. Caesar told me to accept or decline the aid award, but my account says that the package is not available (even though I can see my aid amount, everything is greyed and I cannot click anything.)…does that come after sending in the FAFSA?
  2. What does the EFC include? Say if my EFC is $15,000 a year, does that include housing, computer purchase, and accessory spending or its that the tuition cost alone?
  3. To current students…do you think the 15 inch Macbook Pro would be a good choice to bring to campus? Do students usually carry laptops around and are desks large enough for the 15 inch? I feel that the 13 inch might be too small for me…
  4. Should I bring a printer with me ( I am a science, but not engineering, major)?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Any ideas are appreciated regarding these questions. :slight_smile:

MasterThinker - Congrats on the NU acceptance. My youngest is currently at McCormick, and though I can’t answer all of your questions, I will help as best I can.

1. Don't know - call Fin Aid.

2. EFC = Expected Family Contribution. This is determined by filling out the FAFSA. It has nothing to do with what you mentioned, except in an oblique fashion. For example, if your total to attend NU = $50,000, and your EFC is $15,000, you should expect that the NU financial package will pay $35,000, and you and your family pay $15,000.

3. My son has a 15 inch Lenovo - and said he did not want or need a tablet for xmas. Your millage may vary

4. Yes, my son has printer - it's small and convenient, although you can probably use school printers. Totally up to you, my best guess is that 80% of kids have printers. Welcome, good luck and have fun!

@nugraddad‌ Thanks. Does anyone know if the desks/tables are large? My concern is that my 15 inch my be too big.

My son has never mentioned that his laptop is too big. My D had a 17 inch laptop and she never complained either. IMHO a typical desk in a dorm should be able to support your 15 inch laptop.

@nugraddad‌ Okay, thanks again.

@MasterThinker‌ Did you callthe office about the accept/decline financial aid offer because I’m having the same problem with mine and I’d like to know what they said.

With the aid stuff, I was having the same problem. I think you can’t accept or decline yet until they get the FASFA stuff because the aid info they intially gave you is just a close estimate. I think once the FASFA and all the official financial reports they wanted are recieved amd processed the official numbers will come out (Afterall they’re not going to give you huge aid based off something unofficial that you can lie on). If I find out anything more I’ll post too.

@yolanda1996 @Heisenbergyk I have not, but the deadline on it is well ahead in August. I think they may just be waiting for the FAFSA data.
