Sonoma Communications vs Chico Media Arts

I’m having a tough decision choosing between Sonoma State Communications Studies or Chico State Communication Media Arts.

When looking at the academics it appears Chico is a bit more interesting as far being more hands on and diverse offerings. If anyone has more information regarding the program and Sonoma I would love to hear it. Both had their preview days this past Saturday and I attended Chico’s.

When looking at the living environments the dorms would be hard to beat at Sonoma. I also like how Sonoma is more suburban but at the same time I feel like I’d miss out on the “college experience” and since I don’t plan on participating the Greek I’m afraid it will be more difficult to meet people.

Any insight on either of this subjects is greatly appreciated.

my son is a Jr at Chico and loves it Sonoma was his second choice. Sonoma is a good school but, I have also heard some people have a tough time connecting with other students there. Others simply love it. Perhaps is has to do with the way they use cohorts for some of their top programs (students in the accelerated nursing and teaching programs are in different dorms, take GE courses together, etc). Chico is nearly 2x the student body and stirs nearly all the students (freshmen) into the same housing complex, dining hall and GE courses. If you want a small school or low key college experience, Chico isn’t the right place for you.

Both are good for the right student. For most programs, they are comparable academically.

Follow you heart.
