Sooo Pretentious!

@OP: You obviously weren’t mature enough to handle your aforementioned situation with sufficient tact. Were you ready for Bard? We have to keep in mind that the school isn’t the only contributing factor here. Just because someone might be pretentious doesn’t mean that they’re intrinsically bad. Try some of the professors at larger universities. Fact of the matter is, intellectuals usually tend to come off as pretentious - such is the effect of an expansive and deftly dispatched vocabulary upon those who cannot fully comprehend it. That doesn’t mean that it’s better to fight pretentiousness by dumbing yourself down, though.

If you can come off as intellectual but restrained at the same time, well then, kudos to you. That shows true maturity.

@Brotherbugbear. I’m taking that wave of pretentiousness as sarcasm.

I’m just ■■■■■■■■ around here.

btw, who was this dean of admissions person? was it mary inga backlund? she seems to be referred to on the site as ‘DIRECTOR of admissions’, not dean. i’ve heard there’s a difference but it could very well be different terms for the same thing, as googling for bard college DEAN of admission yielded absolutely nothing.
