Are there any exceptions to the junior-only rule in the National Merit program? For example, I'm a rising sophmore and have just recently indulged in the Blue Book. I can consistently score 2300+ and I would really love to be able to be able to qualify for the National Merit program twice. Is this possible?

No, it is not. The only PSAT that counts towards NMSF is the one taken in the October of your junior year.

Oh wellz. Thanks for the quick reply. :p

Yeah, unfortunately no. I got a 235 sophomore year but then dropped to a 220 junior year and missed the cutoff :(

aww man. I feel for you. I just hope I can keep it up until junior year.

Well, I scored 189 as a freshman and a 218 as a sophomore. Hopefully, my scores’ upward trend continues for my junior PSAT in October.

I also hope I do good, because I don’t have many awards that would impress college adcoms.

Just keep practicing and you will be fine. Wait until your junior year comes!
Good luck !

There is practice for the PSAT?

Well I just take the practice SATs from the blue book. They’re practically the same except for the essay requirement.

@Banjo They have practice PSATs, don’t they? My school gave everyone one before we took the test.

I wish they counted the sophomore one. It would make everything more convenient. People would start studying for the SATs early. We could have our final SAT done by the middle of junior year and wouldnt have to worry about it. UGH.
