Does anyone know of any kind of finance related internships for sophmores (i.e Private wealth management, Investment banking...etc.) in the San Francisco Area?

THanks for the advice!, how many IBs did you apply to?

You’re so full of **** that it’s unbelievable.
There is no way you’d even make it past security doing this.
If you stand outside harassing people as they walk in, you’ll make it maybe 10 seconds before security kicks you off of the premises. If this is in the morning, at say 8:30 am, maybe 1 in 30 employees is an investment banker? Odds are you wouldn’t even approach one before you’re out the door.

Also, a freshman getting a bb ibd offer after meeting with 3 people at a bank? Right…

You’re more likely to become the next Vayner doing this than actually getting serious consideration.

Which banks specifically and also is angryelf right?

Does anyone know of any kind of finance related internships for sophmores (i.e Private wealth management, Investment banking…etc.) in the San Francisco Area?

Is it appropriate to go to the offices and ask them?

San Fran is like the second city for Finance in the US.

Just ask around (school, friends, parents) and I’m sure you can get referred to someone who may have an opportunity down the road. I’m sure there is lots of Venture Capital there, especially. If you don’t know someone who knows someone, it will be harder but not impossible. At the least, just search for firms on google and cold email or cold call them asking if they would like some help for the fall/spring/summer/winter.

Angryelf, you’re incorrect. If he had done this stuff and impressed the guys at JP Morgan, they offer freshman/high school internships. High school is for kids in the NYC area, freshman/sophomore internships for exceptional students.

Also, it doesn’t matter how many people you know, it’s how well you know them. Knowing 100 people at a bank superficially won’t beat knowing a single VP very well.

But you are right in saying that standing in front of a bank asking to talk to a banker is quite a stupid thing to do.

@entity11, you misunderstood my post. I did not say that it was not possible to receive an internship as a freshman. I said that it was impossible to do so after speaking with a mere three people. At an absolute bare minimum, you’ll have a phone interview with one person and a 3 person superday. Thanks for the clarification though.

Also, for what it’s worth, while I don’t necessarily disagree with this statement:

any sort of hiring decision will made by a number of people, not just one. No matter how hard a vp pulls for you, if even an associate doesn’t think he can work with you or doesn’t like you, you will not get an offer.

@angryelf - you’re right. Although the partners in charge of the particular business unit do make the end decisions, I believe, so knowing a partner could help a lot.
