Sophomore Class Registration

Hey! I’m wondering:

  1. Does dual enrollment look “better” than an AP class? At my local university, the courses are roughly equivalent in difficulty.

  2. Do you have any tips regarding my potential sophomore schedule (study habits, past experiences, suggestions, etc.)? Classes:

  • AP Euro
  • Band
  • IB French 4/B SL
  • Pre-IB/AP Chemistry
  • Competitive Pre-Calc
  • AP Lang
  • AP Enviro

Thanks! : -)

From my experience, the dual classes taken and passed will only apply to credit for colleges in YOUR state. I do not know if that applies to you, but that is what I know for mine. So in my PERSONAL OPINION, I think AP’s don’t “look better”, but are just simply better for your college credit. I am currently a high school senior and taking MANY advanced classes while simultaneously studying for the SAT… so my suggestion would be: study whatever you feel like you need MOST help in AND CREATE A SCHEDULE… that always works for me:)

Sorry it is incorrect that dual enrollment classes only apply for colleges in your state. My daughter did two years of only dual enrollment and would have received credit in both pulbic and private schools out of state as well as in state. It is more that often dual enrollment classes are part of a community college system that state colleges in that state may have agreements to accept them. Other colleges may still accept them but you need to look at a college invididually - some actually have an online way to check what courses from specific colleges will transfer in and sometimes you need to talk to an admissions officer for information. However they will not guarantee anything until after you matriculate.

Depends on the level of the college courses. College courses in multivariable calculus and linear algebra after completing AP calculus BC will be seen differently from college courses in college algebra (similar material as high school precalculus). Also, college courses in subjects not available at your high school (e.g. philosophy, sociology, calculus-based statistics) may be worth considering if you want to broaden your academic exploration after fulfilling basic requirements.

Excellent schedule - you cover all 5 core subjects and have a class reflecting personal interest (band).
After that, APES may be overkill so you should make sure you know how much more rigorous than sophomore schedule thst jr schedule is and whether you’re able to get As or Bs in most of your classes currently.

Thanks for your response! I disagree about APES — I would drop band before it and our teacher is also the environmental competition coach who knows me personally. Regarding grades, I have had almost straight 100s.

That’s unique to your school so no one would know that beside you.
The larger point remains.
