Sophomore Housing at Amherst

What is second year housing at Amherst like? Do most students get singles or suites? Or do they have to continue to share a room with a roommate (like first year)?

There is a wide variance, which mostly depends on where they end up on the lottery system. If they are able to get into a room group with upperclassmen, it is likely they could get a single or a suite. But usually they are in a two room or one room double. If I were to guess, I’d say ~1/2 of sophomore students get a one room double again, ~1/3 get a two room double, and ~1/6 get some combination of suites/singles. As a junior, you are pretty much guaranteed a two room double at the worst, but likely a single. Themed/language/disability housing changes all of this too. TL;DR It completely varies, and it partially based off of luck.
