Sororities and Fraternities

Which sororities and fraternaties hang out the most at vandy and which are the best/most fun?

???

For the most part, the good fraternities and good sororities hang out together, the middle hangs out with middle, etc.

In order of best to worst:

Sororities:

Kappa/Theta
Tridelt
KD
Pi Phi
Chi O
ADPi
AOPi/AChiO
DG

Best Fraternities :

KA/SAE
Pike/Beta
Sig Chi/Kappa Sig
AEPi/ZBT
Lambda Chi/Phi Delt
DKE
ATO/Sig Nu
FIJI

what are each of them like? do most west coast girls join kappa?

???

The Greek Life is different at Vanderbilt than at other schools. Due to the commons (where all the freshman live) most sorority-fraternity affiliations are done. Sorority girls tend to go where their guy friends end up (usually a number of different frats). I find that ranking of Fraternities really depends on where you’re from, and what type of party/people you like. If you’re from the North, you probably would not think much of SAE, KA, and Sig Chi. The same thing goes with the South, southerns don’t really go to Kappa Sig, AEPi, Beta, and Pike. From my experience northerners like to rage, while southerners enjoy a more laidback party scene. (note: everyone at vandy rages, some just rage a little more) Example would be a tailgate, at AEPi/Ksig everyone is standing on a elevated surface dancing, while SAE and KA there’s food and music. It really depends what you’re looking for

Rankings:
South
1.SAE- The epitome of a southern fraternity.
2.KA-not completely southern but still maintains a southern quality
3.Sig Chi- no where near as good as SAE and KA but still decent

North
1.Kappa Sig- This is probably debatable to some but Pike lost their house, beta has fallen a lot, and aepi is too exclusive. Ksig has great parties
2.Beta- Used to be top tier, they have fallen a bit, but still good
3.Pike- 2009-10 school year, they had sick parties, they were really on the rise but they wont have a house next year so i guess they dont really count.
4.AEPi- very jewish but great parties. They really dont deserve to be ranked just because they are more of a niche house, if you’re from a predominately jewish neighborhood (i.e. Great Neck on L.I, Rye in Westchester, Staples in CT, etc) you’ll have fun, if not try it out you may be surprised

Lambda Chi- They appeal to kind of weird but normal kids, who like to party. They had Sam Adams come which was cool. Aren’t “popular” on campus, but for those that go, they have fun.

ZBT-Same as Lambda Chi, nice guys, they have their group of people that come. Less jewish than AEPi

Sig Nu- Not popular on campus, cool themes for their parties just most people arent into going

ATO- couldn’t tell you

Phi Delt- If you want to be in a Frat just to be in a Frat, this is the place to go.

These are generalizations, if you do come to vandy, you will learn very quickly about the Frats. No frats really suck since the actual brothers like their Frats. People have fun everywhere

Sororities at vandy dont throw parties and sorority girls go whereever they want on the weekend.

Rankings
South

  1. Theta- Nice Southern Girls
  2. TriDelt- Used to be number one, but have fallen not as “hot” as they once were

North

  1. KKG- Chill girls, who are pretty, dress nicely, and attract a lot of girls.
    2.Tied Pi Phi & KD
Pi Phi- Fun girls from all over who like to party. Really nice and fun
KD- A mixture of girls from everywhere, they dress very nicely and know how to have fun

not as detailed just because sorority rankings dont really matter since girls can get into any party they really want regardless of greek affiliation. Sororities are for charity, stickers, and cool clothing.

thanks! those answers are very helpful

Remember these aren’t “official”. When I visited and asked, a lot of students were saying Pi Phi was there favorite and that Beta was undoubtably the best place for a northern to go. You just have to go and see what fits for you as a freshman during rush.

how does rush work at vanderbilt since its later on?

vandykid14, no one that has been at vandy less than a full year really has any idea of what greek life is like. everything changes next semester once rush is over. and calling SAE “the epitome of a southern fraternity” is a pretty funny joke.

well SAE is the most southern frat on campus, so ha-ha-ha? I just pointed out that northerns tend to go to northern frats, and vice versa for southerns. I’m pretty sure that’s not going to change next semester.

Judging frats before you arrive is worthless. Its all about personal opinion and who you get along with.

vandykid14, i didnt say the people in each fraternity would change. but girls tend to go different places next semester. guys pledge most of the semester so its very different in that regard. after rush is over, fraternities stop worrying about rushing kids and they do different stuff. dont pretend you know what youre talking about. wait til youre here a spring semester then comment or correct me.

I’m from LA and Jewish…stereotypical I know. Ive dj’d a couple parties at AEPi at USC–my brother goes there, and they rage hard as **** (which I like). I was wondering where I may fit in (im not necessarily looking for a Jew only frat) and also, is the nightlife only frat parties? Or are there bars, clubs, stuff downtown? I am looking for a school with a great party life on campus and off. Thanks
