Does anyone have estimates or actual figures on how much a sorority costs?

I am am going to be on full aid (my EFC = 0), and even though i've heard living in a sorority house is cheaper, my aid will be cut by a little bit since i would be living off campus instead of dorming (so they readjust it).

Is anyone in a sorority that can tell me the true cost? Is there pressure to have nice things or just have new clothes? (Not to further any materialistic notions though).

“Average cost of living in a fraternity/sorority house per year: $8,000-$10,000”

I don’t really believe this since alot of social activities require clothes and other expenses. maybe someone who has been in a sorority can help?

you dont have to be pressured to buy nice things or nice clothes just because you join/live in a sorority…however their membership is quite costly. living expenses though is cheaper comparing to other off campus housing, but im not sure if they do membership fee and housing rent together. they also have lots of other stuff you need to spend money on, different events, fundraising etc.

Do you intend to join a sorority just to save money on housing? Have you checked out the co-ops (http://berkeleystudentcooperative.org/)?
