sororities

how much does it cost to be a member of the sororities on campus?
and how bad is the hazing for each of the sororities? i heard delta phi epsilon is awful, but i don't know if that's just a rumor

Hi!
As a member of a sorority I can tell you that it varies with each organization. I’m in Phi sig, and we’re a little less than $300 I think? It’s cheapest when you are a new member though. As for the others, the last time I saw the numbers ZTA was the most expensive (upwards of $400) and Tri Sig was the cheapest (less than a $100). The thing with dues is, it pays for expenses throughout the semester like homecoming t-shirts, social (party) expenses and all that fun stuff. And besides, none of us are anywhere near as expensive as some at other schools! A friend of mine at Rutgers pays $2000 for her sorority.

As for hazing, now that is a difficult subject to address because nobody seems to know the truth about each organization. I used to think DphiE was really bad, but then I started hearing rumors about my own organization that just weren’t true (some people say we leave our girls in the middle of the woods or Trenton and make them find their way back?? Another favorite of mine is that we apparently make our girls carry bricks in their bookbags! Such ridiculous lies!) So basically, now I don’t believe anything I hear when it comes to hazing because I know first hand that the ones concerning my organization at least aren’t true.

Best of luck with whatever choices you make. Even if you don’t join a sorority, join SOMETHING here because the key to a happy college life is being involved :)
