At Cornell, if I am a legacy at Aephi, is it possible for me to end up in Theta Theta or Alpha Phi? Or am I going to be labelled as "Aephi" from the beginning? It's not that Aephi is bad or anything, it's just my sister and I are very different and I don't think I'd fit in/enjoy myself there.

Hi,
My daughter was a legacy but decided she wanted a different sorority while rushing and got into the one she wanted. I think you just have to let it be known, without trashing the other sorority, that you are interested in other sororities. UVA seems much more relaxed about these things than the college I went to. Good luck and have fun!

Thank mussled! Does anyone else know if being a legacy for a sorority at Cornell will hurt my chances of getting into other sororities?

No, I don’t believe so. If you rank Aephi very low and other sororities rank you high then Aephi will be dropped off on your next round.

If you are a legacy because of your mother/aunt/grandmother then it’s not going to matter that much. But if your sister is at another sorority then you may need to be more specific about how interested you are at your sis’ sorority. My younger daughter ended up at her older sister’s sorority, but she had to be very specific that it was her first choice. She ranked it as the highest on her list for every round.

Selection/matching is all done by a computer application. I assume you all know how the business logic works.

Tonight is the big night. Good luck to all. I selfishly am glad it’s over and I can speak with my daughter again.
