...what is learned by a Business major? What is the coursework like? Business is just a really large term so I'd like someone to kind of narrow it down for me and be specific on what a Business curriculum is like.

Since you can start your own business without any type of schooling or degree, what makes an undergraduate business degree so important and necessary? I know that these may seem like naive questions but I'd like to know.

Any business degree has basic requirements that would help a business. These requirements are usually basic accounting classes, finance classes, operations classes, management classes, technology classes, and a business law class. While a major in any particular subject covers a lot of different areas, for the basic, introductory classes:

Accounting will help you measure the progress of your business

Finance will help you get the start up money you need

Operations will help with supply chain management

Management will help when you hire employees

Technology can help with customer databases

There is a lot more a business degree can do, this is a very basic overview that almost all business schools will teach you (and I am sure people will critique me due to my lack of knowledge in each subject, I apologize in advance).

It takes a lot of balls to start a business. A degree helps you get a job working for someone else.

In the most lucrative businesses, you will need a background working in the field prior to starting a business. For example, how are you going to start a Private Equity firm without a background in private equity? You probably won’t know *** private equity is, much less have the experience to be successful in that field or access to equity to start the firm.

Does one need a business degree to be successful in business? Absolutely not. However, ideally you will have goals, and then determine which degree will be the most helpful in reaching that goal (whether business, economics, engineering, fashion design, etc).
