My school does not do class rank according to my counselor but there are only 2 people who are taking more AP classes than me(not sure if that matters…)

Can you pay full freight?

I think a 32 on the act is automatic admission

Hi, I’m sorry I’m not an expert on OOS admissions to UT but just had to say auto admits are not based on ACT or SAT scores.

The only auto admits are the top 6% of in-state TX high school students. (that percentage can change slightly every year). The auto-admits are admitted to UT but not necessarily their desired major. UT is very competitive in most majors.

I heard Mccombs business is very competitive do I have any chance there?

@Sybylla I’m not able to pay full OOS tuition, going for some scholarships or financial aid

As an OOS student, your odds of acceptance are fairly low. Because you need financial aid (there is none) and your scores are too low for the few merit scholarships offered, I wouldn’t even suggest you apply.

unless you have a really strong hook (do you think you are better than all the instate violinest that apply to UT?) there won’t be any scholarships and no FA for OOS at UT, you need a plan B.

Thanks for the information. I will probably apply knowing I won’t be receiving any aid.

I wouldn’t even suggest you apply.<<<<<<<<<

I would agree. It is just a gift of your money to apply.

UT offers few, if any, merit scholarships. They don’t offer additional financial aid to out of state students, since they limit OOS to 10% of admissions. At UT, 90% of their admissions are Texas residents. If you can’t afford the out of state tuition, then UT is not a realistic option. Sorry  You have great stats! Just apply to a good in-state school.

Thanks for all the help. I will consider other options

Texas looks at out of state applicants holistically. If you really want to go and can make it work, whether or not you receive financial aid, you should go for it. There are a lot of merit scholarships given that you should look at, especially for minority students, including not even through UT. Not sure you can get into McCombs as that is very competitive, but as an OOS student you of course have a chance, and with your course rigor, and score, anything is possible. A girl from our (OOS) school got into UT last year with a 27 ACT. She is in the School of Education, but regardless was accepted, along with about 15 other kids from our high school! I think we sent 3 to McCombs. Good luck!

@srparent15 There are a lot of merit scholarships given<<<<<<<<<

To an OOS student asking for financial aid with an ACT of 32? Show me where you have those listed? A LOT of merit scholarships? For OOS?

OOS on full freight with optimal stats, is a whole differentiate kettle of fish.

Texas Exes lists a ton of merit scholarships, depending on the school he applies to, they have their own, he can find scholarships of his own through Naviance, cappex, and again, as a minority he can probably find other opportunities online for High Achieving Hispanic students. There is a ton of scholarship $ out there that is not claimed every year, especially to minorities. Hispanic and African Americans in those classes that he has, if he has the grades, will be highly sought after. But he’s taking AP Physics C, Calc BC, and 7 other AP classes, so definitely has the rigor and has done well for the most part. I assumed he said McCombs but looked back and see he didn’t say McCombs, so his chances may be even better to greater to get in. Again, if he can afford the $75, and can cover the unmet need if it comes to that, it’s worth applying.

The only thing he is missing are more Honors. If he’s taken the AP tests already he should have AP Scholar status at least, if his scores are high enough.

Specifically from UT. Merit scholarships. Not generic fluff. for a 32 ACT OOS kid asking for FA. Where are they specifically? You say a ton, a lot? Where?

@srparent … yeah that’s just not true.

While a lot of these are for specific areas of Texas, plenty of these are for anyone, or specific groups/minorities, first generation, financial need based, etc. It doesn’t mean he will get them, but considering only 10% of the class is out of state, his chances are as good as the next if he is accepted and meets the criteria, as plenty of OOS won’t have the same qualifications, or meet the requirements. https://texasexes.academicworks.com/

Really, we wonder why kids are starry eyed.
