My daughter is very interested in Sports Management. She was accepted to South Carolina’s HRSM and just this weekend was accepted to Virginia Tech Business school with a major in management. She is completely torn as the major that South Carolina has everything she thinks she wants. We are OOS sooooo…you can see where this is going. Does anyone have knowledge and/or experience with Sports and Entertainment Management at South Carolina. I want to really weigh the options.
If you are tuition sensitive, be sure you understand the requirements for internships - since they are for credit you have to pay tuition for them (they might or might not be paid internships). Depending on the credit hours you essentially could end up having the equivalent of an extra semester of tuition to pay. But they have some great internships (think Olympics) plus chances to work things like the Masters golf tournament just down the road.
And since I think you need certain coursework to get the internships, you have to be sure you don’t get off track with pre-requisites. I’ve heard a friend of mine talk about these issue with her son. They are very happy with program, but these were some frustrations for them. Just a suggestion for questions you might want to ask. This student was a few years ago, so this might have changed.
Thanks! We are planning on re-visiting both schools so those will be great questions to ask.
Have you checked out the Academic Common Marketplace (ACM)? I know that a MD resident can get in state status at USC-C for Sports Management, check out if your state qualifies.
@Dunteachin We did check on the ACM and unfortunately it is not part of the majors from Virginia. D applied for every HRSM scholarship that she was eligible for. Has anyone from HRSM heard anything about those scholarships? We are heading to Virginia Tech and USC next week for final visits so that she can decide which is a better fit. Obviously, a little money from USC would help her/our decision. We are instate for Virginia Tech.
