1) List the stereotypes that you have for people of the following group: East and Southeast Asia. Are they really different? for example, if you have to tell the differences between a Chinese and a Vietnamese ( I don't mean the physical ones), how would you describe them in term of diligence , intelligence, personality and anything else you would like to mention. Are the Vietnamese tend to be at the lower socioeconomic ladder and are more relaxing than Chinese students in academic settings? Are the Vietnamese the "bad ones" (Asian gangsta groups) compared to East Asians?

2) Are these differences taken into account in college admission?

I don’t know about the which, if any of the countries are filled withed “bad ones” but if the country is known for crime that won’t affect the applicants application. This is because countries know that good people come from bad places, and bad people from good places as different areas are diverse; thus, they have a section on the application asking if the person has ever been convicted of a felony, they also ask the guidance counselor if they are aware of any crimes the applicant has been committed, if any. So there wouldn’t be any discrimination against an applicant’s application if he/she came from a “bad” area. Hope this helps.

My friend is part Chinese and Vietnamese. I thought she was fully Chinese at first (since her parents own a Chinese restaurant). Then she told me she was part Vietnamese, which made no difference to me.

You really think one ethnicity consists of the “bad ones”? Haha that’s BS. There are mafias in East Asia too. Just saying, since I would know.

To answer your question, most Americans don’t really differentiate Asians. Like, if you say “asian”, there’s pretty much one picture that comes to mind. It’s the same with the term “hispanic” to describe people from central and south america.

Actually some of my family’s closest friends are filipinos. Personally I consider some of the filipino girls I’ve met to be hot as ****, like my one friend.
