Pitzer does really look for fit. It has started getting a lot of “if I don’t get into Pomona” applicants and that has pushed the admittance rate way down. However, they are apt to be very happy to get an applicant with decent stats whose application shows he or she “gets” what Pitzer is about.

Echoing that Pitzer is about fit. They are test optional.

Take a look at the Pitzer admissions thread for a sense of how they truly aren’t about stats.

Pitzer is test-optional for students with either a 3.5 GPA or who are in the top 10% of their class. They also strongly emphasize the social justice/environmental responsibility aspect of their culture; I don’t see a B+ student who doesn’t display those characteristics having a very good chance. Their admit rate has been dropping in recent years and is now lower than many LACs that are more highly regarded; I don’t know whether this is a product of their test-optional policy or not (e.g. students seeing “test-optional” and thinking “easier to get in” and applying when they don’t really have a chance).
