Spanish 1 in Freshman year

Hi,

I’m a freshman at high school and I’m currently taking Spanish 1.
Because I came to the U.S. in 7th grade, my teachers made me take reading in 8th grade while most of my classmates took Spanish 1.
I tried to take Spanish 1 over the summer before my freshman year, but I couldn’t because I had some problems with the application process.
I’m planning to take Spanish 2 over next summer so I can take Honors Spanish 3 as a sophomore. I’m taking all honors classes except Spanish, and I am getting straight A’s in all my classes.
Will colleges look down on me because I took Spanish 1 while it is normal at my high school to take Spanish 2 in freshman year?

Also, if I will at a disadvantage, will showing progress in Spanish through awards help my admission to top colleges?

No.

You have the opportunity to take four years of a foreign language through high school, which meets the expectations of any college and exceeds the expectations of a vast majority of them.

You’re fine.

What matters most is reaching level 4 (for competitive colleges) or at least level 3. Starting in Level 1 freshman year allows you to reach level 4 senior year or to finish junior year if you take level 2 over the summer, 3H sophomore year, and 4H or 4 jr year.

Honestly I would just take Spanish each year and don’t try to get ahead…spend that energy on your core courses. Colleges just want you to get to level 4( or 3 depending) but there is no need to go crazy.
