Can anyone talk about experiences in any of the special interest communities, such as LOFT, Outdoor Connections, CAndOO, etc.? They are an option for first year residence choices, but S is uncertain about them. Do they tend to restrict social interactions with other students not living in the special interest group, and do they involve a big commitment of time and energy beyond the usual first year experience?

My D has said she wished she had done LOFT and lived at Gate House. That's where her friends ended up. She didn't take up the offer of sophmore year Leadership because she would have to live off the hill and she didn't want to.
I don't think it would limit the social group, in that instance.
