<p>Your college should have a website that describes minimum requirements or recommendations for various academic programs. For liberal arts, almost any relatively new laptop should be OK. Engineering and other technical fields typically have higher standards. One architecture school said bring any laptop for your freshman year, and then buy the best laptop you can afford your sophomore year when you get into technical work.</p>
