Special transfer circumstance?

Hello! :) I'm a freshman UCLA student right now, but my father is very ill and I need to be closer to home to take care of him. We live in San Francisco, so my two best choices would be UCB and UCSC. I'm also considering UCD because it's still only about an hour drive.

I did very well in high school (3.85 UW GPA/4.5 W) and on my SATs (2150 SAT I, 730 and 710 SAT II's). I already got accepted to UCB and UCD when I applied as a HS senior, and I would have gotten accepted to UCSC as well since I was ELC (but I didn't apply at the time). I have also done well my first year at UCLA and have gotten a 3.764 GPA cumulative for my first two quarters (I had to withdraw this quarter to take care of my dad). I plan to either take UCLA online classes or CCC classes this summer to make up for this missed quarter.

So my question is: is there any way I could start as a sophomore at one of the other UC's, without having my 60 units done because of my special circumstance and the fact that I've proven I can do the work at any of the UC's I want to attend? Is there any way I could talk to an admissions officer in person and explain my situation (has anyone done this?) so that I can start in the fall at a different UC? Any advice would be really great. Thanks so much!

Before anything, I hope your dad gets well soon.
Now, I think you should call the school you’d like to attend and ask them what you are asking on here.
We are all prospective transfer students who don’t really know about any special requirements.
Call and get the right answer from them.
Good luck!!

UC to UC transfers require you to finish all lower division work first… I would definitely contact some admins regarding your situation. I hope your dad feels better!

Thanks for the well wishes! I’ll try to contact actual admins at these schools and keep you updated. If anyone has successfully accomplished this in the past, any advice would be great, by the way!

Hey, hersheyskiss! Your PM box is full :p, so I was wondering: did you find anything out about this yet? I’d like to ask the various schools about my own situation, but it’d be helpful to hear how your process went first. Thank you!
