My son is quite interested in Hamilton and is considering applying Early Decision this fall. However, I am not sure if there is anything “special” about his application. Does anyone have an idea has to how he can distinguish his application? Thanks!
My son was accepted to Hamilton early decision last Fall. Can you give us more information about your son’s interests and other data? That would help for advising.
Reading CC can often be misleading–not every accepted Hamilton student won a prestigious award, wrote a book, and volunteered to build hospitals abroad. However, all accepted students do have something “special” about their applications. The key is to frame the applicant’s accomplishments properly, emphasizing leadership skills, teamwork ability, etc. In addition, sometimes what makes an application stand out is ‘passion’, which although cliche, if articulated well, can catch the eye of an admissions officer. Why does your son want to attend Hamilton? Have you visited campus? If so, what stood out? Why is Hamilton a good fit for your son (and what can he offer Hamilton)? You’d be surprised how many people answer the “why Hamilton?” supplement essay with ordinary cliches that apply to any and all schools. Writing an essay specific to Hamilton, showing that you are seriously considering Hamilton, that you’ve done your research on the institution, can make your application “special.”
