Specific Financial Aid Situation

Ok so I know I made a thread asking for financial aid colleges but this is an inquiry about how a certain circumstance applies to financial aid applications.
I wanted to know if this changes anything
While my dad made 79,000 dollars a year this year it wasn't completely him. He lost his job a few months ago because he didn't want us to move to new York and uproot the family. He has been paying the bills because he received a severance package because he worked with the company for so many years. He will come September me unemployed and probably make half if not less of his old job (if he finds one it's been hard and he has been trying but not succeeding). This is why he cannot help me with my college expenses.

I wanted to know if this changes anything with my chances at financial aid or if it doesn't matter of my special circumstance.

The severance package counts as income. Hopefully he will find another job before the severance ends.

If your dad remains unemployed in 2015, you can contact your schools and ask if they can do a professional judgment based on the lack of income. They will tell you the process to do this.

Even IF the school does, this, there is no guarantee it will net you additional aid.

I think you are very wise to be looking at all options for college. You have found a full ride, and full tuition plus stipend school to apply to.
