I was wondering if anyone know if there were anyone laptop requirements for CS majors? I looked on the website but didn't see anything about it. I'm leaning towards a Mac, but obviously won't get one if I'll be needing Windows.

bump…

What computer languages will you use?

You would want some thing light with a big screen. You should contact your CS department and see what they recommend.

I find this sentence hilarious from a coming from a soon to be CS major. You have got a long way to go.

Actually you can complied many languages on OS X but errors and glitches may occur if you compile a program on OS X for Windows.

If I were a CS major, I would have a Windows Vista/7 laptop with a 15 - 17 inch screen (you can see a lot more code with a big screen), a powerful processor (for compiling programs), Bluetooth (wireless mouse), built-in wireless G or N, and a good graphics card.

Why? Because you can run both on a Mac? And obviously I have a lot to learn, hence the question. Don’t flame the noob!

Okay, so have you considered whether you really need a laptop? A desktop would be a better value, usually.

If you’ve decided that you want a laptop, I’ve noticed that a lot of people that have laptops with the big screens didn’t take into consideration the weight issues – they don’t want to carry it around anywhere because its heavy and hurts your back. So make sure to take that into consideration.

Personally, I have a desktop for the computationally intensive stuff, and a cheap/light laptop if I need to carry it around (bought it off ebay).
